The bible says that "it will not come like a thief in the night."
Referencing that all Christians will know somewhat whether the end is near or not.
The only problem, is that all the people who became the Christian because of the end of the world might leave Christianity because of how 5/21/11 was a hoax.

The Bible makes no mention of when the apocalypse will be, so they're clearly not very good at being christian.

A good and simple article on the Singularity and Emergent Behavior.
I don't quite agree on the acceleration of technology the author's suggests
(that we've made equivalent advancement from 2001-2011 as we did from 1900-2000), but he still lays it out well.

I don't agree with it either, graphine may well be an amazing material, but unless some effort is put into actually producing it in useful amounts at an affordable cost, it will simply remain just another piece of knowledge that's just too expensive for anyone to use.
