Given some advice from people in another thread, I am making a new topic for this chapter of the Treasconi conflict. This is a pretty short chapter, it is actually a dialouge from a news report on the events, expect more of these in the future, a nice break form the action and a nice look into the world of 2049, enjoy, feedback wanted.

“However, the Tridents did manage to pull through in the 9th to secure victory over the Tsunamis, taking the Europa Cup and will be playing the Martian Dust storms at Cerberus Stadium on Saturday, 1700 Earth Standard. Mike?”

“Thank you Susan. Now getting back once again to our top story for the past several days, the ongoing and newly declared “Treasconi” conflict. Since last Sunday, the 2nd and 3rd fleets have been in the system and have been engaging these Treasconi on the ground on the desert planet known as Ecto-clop-sys, is that how say it, Ectoclopsys in the Treasconi language. Fighting has been minimal for the most part, except for yesterday when a large force of 3,500 men total were used to capture the first major Treasconi base of operations in the region. Much of the Treasconi force was trapped and surrendered to the ESEDF force. ESEDF casualties are believed to be around 500, mostly from the 3rd fleets, 3rd division Bravo and Omega Company, who were a major part of the assault. It is expected that the 3rd fleet will land its 3rd and 1st divisions by the end of the week, and the 2nd will land its 4th and 2nd soon after. Plans are being made to begin landings elsewhere, with sites near the North Pole and various rivers planned in the coming days and weeks. “

“Still, we know very little about the Treasconi, their language is complex and compliance to understand it is difficult, though it is hoped the large number of recent prisoners will help to give us more details about their language, culture, identity, history, and importantly, why we were attacked. For more info we turn to army correspondent Daniel Goldstein at the ESEDF Dido base, being rebuilt following its attack. Daniel thank you for joining us, I know it’s late in the system given the distance.”

“That’s alright Mike, it’s hard to sleep here anyway given the heavy amount of sunlight the planet gets. It has been nonstop action since I got here yesterday. Dropships with men, supplies, tanks, and building materials are arriving every half hour. There is a real air of both fear and excitement all around as men from the front are returning with information and stories about this new enemy. I’m actually standing here with Captain Elizabeth Jordan of the 3rd fleets 1st division Echo Company who has some information for us. Captain?”

“Thank you Daniel. My company just returned earlier from an excursion south towards a series of plains to scout the area in force. As far as we can tell, this general area is pretty devoid of Treasconi populace and military, the base recently taken by Major’s Aldans and Martel seems to be the only one for 100 miles or so. Our Gendarmes fighters are flying farther everyday observing the landscape and we expect to have a few GPS satellites delivered by the end of the week.”

“What about this new enemy, what are they like?

“Well, I myself have not seen them personally. Only a few from Major Aldans and Major Martel’s companies have seen them when they were taken up from their base to the London. I hear they are human looking but some with some distinct differences. I’ll see to it I can send you some pictures of them once I myself can get some, but details are being withheld at the moment.”

“I see, thank you for your time Captain.”

“You’re welcome Daniel.”

“Thank you, that was Captain Elizabeth Jordan from the ESEDF’s 3rd fleet. Daniel, you okay, you look like you’re sweating.”

“Yes, uh sorry Mike it’s just really hot here. It’s the middle of summer here, its night, and it’s easily 31C out here. Temp’s expected to rise tomorrow and for the next few days and reach 36 by Tuesday.”

“Well why don’t you go get some rest Daniel, I feel you’re gonna need it.”

“Thank you Mike.”

“That was Daniel Goldstein on Ectoclopsys. And speaking of high temperatures, Conrad has some bad news for us, Conrad?”

“Yes Mike, it is going to be a scorcher in a lot of places this coming week. We had a high temperature of 47 in Washington D.C today and a record 36 in Ottawa. Paris also saw a high of 32 and Moscow reported a high of 34. It looks like a massive heat wave over much of the Northern Hemisphere and it looks like it won’t break in most places until next Sunday, where we should see a large cool down over North American and Western Europe, though Russia and parts of Japan and China will continue to see highs of 34+ at least for another week. In the Caribbean we are also seeing tropical storm Alfred gaining strength South of Cuba, I expect it to make landfall near Havana tomorrow as a category one storm, nothing particularly frightening. It’s proving to be a pretty slow hurricane season so far and I don’t expect it to become any stronger by its end. Mike?”

“Thank you Conrad. Coming up, new news from the EF high council about the future of the Treasconi conflict and what it means for the Federation and the world. Also, signs of a coming mass insurrection in the Middle East Coalition following several years of unrest and its possible outcomes and effects of the Federation and Egypt, the only state of the Coalition to join the EF. Wgenever I try the write, how often names appear in dialog always feels wrong. I try to compensate for it but having it in the narration looks odd too. Not having it is not an option as there are no visual cues as there are in video to show to whom one is talking to. Thus sometimes when I write something you cannot tell whom is speaker.

I notice you got for the names in dialog method. Any thoughts on what I just said on the subject?

I've always gone for the names in narrative method, if that's any good. I also occasionally leave it up to the reader to decide who said something.

Well, its a bit hard to read, but I notice it was written at 2 A.M, at least in my timezone. I know it is difficult given it is simply dialouge, but the hope was to just give you a glimpse into the world of 2049 and to the XOF news channel, which will become more important in later installments.

I do use names a lot but only to try and make things clear and not get people confused by using a lot of pronouns, its really just my style of writing and speaking.
