I think it's supposed to give the other factions the lookat order towards the player. Player's ship is objectified (painted) and it looks like his virtual team has changed. I don't think that the order is supposed to be given to the player, but it's being sent to the player anyways.

Another side note. I wonder if font hinting has changed between versions since the fonts do end up looking slightly different.

It's most likely what Commando says. I'll ask ZA if VSR's shell files use any svars. Yes, it pretty much has to use svars to even function as intended. When it comes to tech, I always assume the manufacturers big corners in order to come out with a product for people who are looking for the absolute cheapest thing. I don't mind paying 20% more than the cheapest thing to get something that performs 50% better or lasts 50% longer.

BZ2 has no issues running it out of program files (if it does, show me a use case). The only time it might is if you're using currently running 1.2 or a very old beta (e.g. PB3) on Windows Vista or newer.

According to the DLL source it uses *spilo, not *suser. I don't know where the *suser ODFs are even used.
