I don't want to date myself too much, but that mindset was incredibly rampant in the late 60's. The irony is, the great majority found themselves assimilated into the system, once it became painfully clear the dollar could make life a hell of a lot more comfortable.forgottengames wrote:It's all fun and games until someone acquires bridge piercings, lip piercings, nose piercings, soul piercings, butt piercings, GSH piercings, and half a full sleeve of tattoos. Re: Interesting article thread
Which mindset? Anarchist and Environmentalist are fundamental opposites. Anarchists are generally politically ignorant and self interested idealists. whereas Environmentalists are motivated by their concern over our ever diminishing natural wealth and are very keen on protective legislation and intelligent development. The fact that they both find themselves protesting against the same things is just an indication of how much the conventional political establishment is failing to get it right.

Failing to "get it right" is the wrong mindset.
There is no 'right or wrong' on what society expects of each other, when there is a fundamental difference on our basic expectations on the post-pubescent individual.
How much effort is expected from each person to participate on an estimated level of hardship?
translation: How lazy and irresponsible can you be before society says WTF?

Re: Interesting article thread
Yes there is. First on the list is that our leaders do not lead us to an extinction of our species. There is no 'right or wrong' on what society expects of each other,
Some people have decided to pick and choose which Scientific Discipline's they want to believe in. This is completely unacceptable behaviour for people in positions of responsibility.
The behaviour of some adolescent's is really not important, they always do stuff like that, its completely normal, only a fool would expect anything else. We need them to do what they do, us old gits don't have the energy for it.
Do you really expect the younger generation to become good little hardworking citizens when they know their future is being deliberately burned in front of their eyes by a bunch of greed driven selfish fockwits?
How criminally irresponsible do our leaders have to be before society demands change? (History is quite clear on this, we will let them get us killed on mass and still not do anything)

And so are environmentalists, they just bring it slightly different, but as they show their faces more often it is also clear to me that these people generally are only involved with themselves. Driving their car to a demonstration vs Shell, etc ..MrTwosheds wrote:Which mindset? Anarchist and Environmentalist are fundamental opposites. There is a nice docu floating around the Discovery Channel. It almost made me feel ashamed to buy matches though ...GSH wrote:Sulfur mining is pretty. Dangerous.

Too much freedom leads to too many problems. Enough said.
If these "mindsets" weren't so rampant, we'd likely suffer less problems such as materialism, STIs, promiscuity, divorces, teenage pregnancy, laziness, and dishonesty.
And Sulfur miners have pretty dangerous workplaces. Three whiffs of H2S and you'll be pushing up daisies.

Yes, just ignore all of the work of climatologists. They say things you don't want to hear, so they must be wrong. Science isn't a religion you can't just ignore the bits you don't like.

Unconfirmed and misunderstood science can be a religion. The general public does not have the full understanding of science that would lend itself to critical thought. Thus, many of the general public just "believe" science (in whatever form it may take) whether or not said "science" is peer reviewed, tested, or not.MrTwosheds wrote:

Not disputing the work of climatologists, necessarily. Climate is changing (always does) and humans most likely have an impact. But it's a self-serving interest to put a halt to greenhouse gas emission. Earth will fix itself. Wipe out a few billion of us and carry on.

Yes. Like not blowing yourself up in the name of Jihad is also a self serving interest. This period of recent history has been really very informative on the state of the human conciousness and just how very susceptible to propaganda's and cultural control we really are, seems such a waste to have gone to all the trouble of evolving nearly all the way to intelligence, only to genocide ourselves because survival was too expensive and inconvenient to organise. But it's a self-serving interest to put a halt to greenhouse gas emission
