New PC, looking for suggestions

Post by Nielk1 »

ATM I have tentatively selected the following, it might be too much or not cost efficient, this is just a bit of a scratch pad. I need to check all parts will operate together as well:

Tower: Sentey Arvina Extreme Division Tower Case 6x Fan LED/ 4 x USB / Multi Card Reader / 4 x Fan Control / E-SATA / 6 x Removable Aluminum Bays / Screwless
Mobo: ASRock P67 PRO3 (B3) LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
CPU: Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80623I72600K
CPU Cooler: ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 92mm Fluid Dynamic CPU Cooler
PSU: ENERMAX PRO87+ EPG500AWT 500W 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Power Supply OR ENERMAX PRO87+ EPG600AWT 600W 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Active PFC Power Supply
RAM: 2xG.SKILL Sniper 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR
GFX: XFX HD-697A-CNFC Radeon HD 6970 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity OR MSI R6970-2PM2D2GD5 Radeon HD 6970 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity
Optical Drive: SAMSUNG Black 12X BD-ROM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM SATA Internal Blu-ray Drive Model SH-B123L LightScribe Support - OEM
SSD:
HDDs:
Display: 2xHP LP2475w Black 24" 6 ms Height,Swivel,Pivot & Tilt Adjsutable Widescreen LCD Monitor 400 cd/m2 1000:1
Keyboard: Logitech G110 Black USB Wired LED Backlighting Gaming Keyboard OR Logitech G510 Black 18 Function Keys USB Wired Gaming Keyboard OR Logitech G19 Black 104 Normal Keys USB Wired Standard Gaming Keyboard
Mouse: RAZER DeathAdder Precision Optical Gaming Mouse - 3.5G Infrared Sensor
Speakers: Logitech X-540 70 watts 5.1 Speakers
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Full

What are thoughts on what parts are missing and what might be better?
I have a cost ceiling but I am not posting it as of yet. I would like to buy from Tiger Direct as I *might* be able to get a further discount.

Optical Drive: CD/DVD RW combo or blu ray...
HDDs: 2TB
Display: 30-40 inch?? lol
Keyboard: Optimus Keyboard definately
Mouse: dunno
Speakers: Biggest/loudest you can find

Thats what I'd like, not sure if you agree with any. I always wanted an Optimus Keyboard because of the 50x50 px displays meaning you can do anything on there.

I am looking at 2 of these:

I am also trying to jigger in some 2TB HDDs but soon I will start swapping parts out to keep a reasonable price. The HDDs are confusing, they all have similar statistics and vary wildly in price.

I need to check if the tower supports 3x SLI or only 2x.

Not sure on the blue-rays. I just checked and the Mobo alone comes with a 2x SLI bridge, but it also has a 5 year warranty and the barebones PC only has a limited 1 year. So the barebones might not come with the bridge cable :-/

We love having the 8gb of ram.
Also having the seven slots for memory chips/cards have proven to be worth it because anyone can come visit and give me their memory card from their camera and we can download everything.
I know the i7 is ultra hot and all but don't forget about the i5 if you run low on money.

Looks like the mobo can only take 2 gfx cards. Plus the slots can get blocked because they are so tight together.

Is the standard more than two graphics cards?

Kids these days have it so easy.

Also, this is the mouse I use. Best mouse ever, don't let anyone tell you otherwise: http://www.amazon.com/HERSHEYS-Computer ... B000Y1DT8A

Personally I wouldn't go near any of the Intel i# series. They may be flashy and all, but they're going to be hell to upgrade. I'm running an AMD Phenom II x6, and it's fantastic.

As for parts, I can send you my list once it's compiled.

Issue is I am having trouble finding a good equivalent AMD.

Also, the board suggested 3x SLI, the usual bait and switch.
