Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising

Post by bigbadbogie »

Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising is a fantastic game, and is probably the game with the closest resemblance to Battlezone that I have ever discovered.

It is quite different in its interface and has a fairly steep learning curve, but it is a genuine FPS/RTS hybrid.

Despite the obvious blasphemy of this, I reckon that some elements of the game are actually better than those in Battlezone... particularly the ability to give a series of commands to units at once rather than just one.

I bought myself a copy over ebay but I know that there is somewhere that you can purchase it online.

The game came out in 2001 so its graphics are a bit dated, and probably not even as good as BZ2 vanilla's.

Some features of it I wouldn't mind replicating for my mods eventually.

Looking at the SS's i find online, it looks like the radar, the F groups, and the weapon 3rd person beam are almost straight from BZ2...

Granted those are almost identical, but the actual command interface is 'fairly' different. There certainly are some similarities there. There is no point and click command interface (in first person), but you can still order units around via the keyboard.

Surprised that you of all people haven't... it's an English made game.

This game's voice actors... lets just say that two of them are my personal gods.

Glad to see that new members of the BZ2 community have upheld the old traditions of immediate and irrevocable hatred of all things different.

Thankyou for your generously insightful input.

How about you try playing the game rather than looking at a still image and asserting ambiguous absolutes.

I gave BZ1 a mediocre score for being a broken mess with a story full of plot holes, inconsistencies, and gameplay that was just... nonesense. I also gave BZ2 a flat D+ for at least being a tad fun, albeit silly.

That's how I let myself play Skyrim and Skyward Sword. Clearly, I now regret those purchases. *nod* Not only did Skyrim prove to be a bad purchase, but it angered me extremely. The other game I just haven't touched ofter a few hours worth of gameplay.

All I see in these stills and videos is a backwards glorified- let me google the name... "Apache AH-64 Air Assault". Also, with a HUD that I'm surprised passed alpha stage. Get this away from me.

Then what in the name of hell are you doing on this forum exactly? Since when are people who openly hate BZ allowed on the forums? God I miss BZU...

Nobody's forcing you to play it. Nobody's forcing you to diss it either. How about you keep your under-informed, black and white opinion to yourself. Quite astonishingly, some of us actually enjoy playing the FPS/RTS genre around here. I'm sorry that you don't, but you are clearly on the wrong forum.
