BZ2 took less than a year to add a co-op vs AI mode. Looks like Valve has built on the success of Left4Dead (and its sequel) and added a similar mode to a previously team of players vs team of players game.
It's all about giving players options. Not every player wants to play vs humans. Not every player wants to play vs bots. One size does not fit all. One mode is not inherently superior to another mode. People can -- and do -- prefer a specific mode. Great. Let them.

Bought the game, never liked the pvp aspect of it, perhaps this may still make it worth the money I spend

well, valve managed to troll and release clues about this shiet and probbaly half life 3 since mann manor event 2 years ago
and it take a lot of fans and hackers to decode everything.
