A Large Database Of Free Games (My new crazy project)

Post by bobreece20 »

Hi guys, I'm back once more to tell you about my latest crazy project.
Its a large (400+) database of freeware/indie free to play games with direct download links, they are all free, legal, ad free, and most come close to big studio/publisher standards, in fact some are even big publisher games released as freeware. The site also allows anyone to add games, artwork, reviews and ratings. Just wanted to get some feedback on the looks, usability and your general opinions about it.

It needs a lot of work but it looks wonderful. Are you going to have any APIs for external access to your data? I ask because I am working on a sort of, integrating 'super thing' and this data is definitely something of interest. :-P

Very nice.
I might suggest you look into JSON returns as well since they are easily used natively in JavaScript and are less verbose, often a fraction of the size of XML. Just a suggestion, I work with JSON a lot at work right now.

I am messing with a Minecraft Mod atm, but I will be jumping back into a project that can make use of this data soon.

I've made a JSON API can someone please check its correct, as I've never used JSON before so it might have errors in it.

I will check a bit later. I don't think keys need to be in quotes but I could be wrong. I do most of my JSON work at work atm so I don't have something on hand yet to reference.

Looks good, i didn't see Call to Power 2 from Activision which is open source.
Not a lot of open source games there yet.
Activision anet servers for all legacy anet games: Anet Servers
BattleZone Club (Supporting BattleZone 1.4, The Red Odyssey, BattleZone Enhanced, BattleZone 1.5 and Bionite)
BattleZone 1 Community Since 2002

Call to Power 2 still requires an original CD to play, hence its not free. There is many more open source games in the database but as it was a post feature all the games automatically got tagged with closed regardless of whether they were open or not so the database needs someone to go through and correct it.
