Planetside 2

Post by Echo 343 »

Anyone else try this out yet? I've played maybe 4 hours of it, and its a unforgivably tough learning curve.

I don't suggest going in on your lonesome.

You will get slaughtered with little effort.

Me and a friend tried it on release, having both been fans of the original.

My god, it was horrible. Aside from the fact that we couldn't move more than three feet without getting riddled with rounds, performance was through the floor compared to what I'm used to. It doesn't seem to offload to GPU anywhere near enough.

The minimum specs for it are higher than you might expect, my p4 3.2 ghz single processor pc is below that minimum.

My PC was built bleeding-edge in April '11.

For me it isn't bad. I have:
i7 860
8GB RAM
GTX 660
All at stock and performance is just fine on a monitor with a resolution of 1920 * 1080.

I find that to be a bit situational. If you have a good platoon it is rare that it will happen.

I quite enjoy the game even though it is a little rough in some places.

I'm just having trouble adapting to having to factor in bullet speed and drop to hit someone a good bit away. Oh and getting torn asunder without warning due to the radar mechanics. I.E if you look the wrong way when moving anywhere you'll be shot to pieces before you can turn on them, the only way you see them on radar is if you spot them with the Q key. Pity it only lasts 5 seconds at best.

If I had to compare the game to a recent title, it would have to be Battlefield 3. It takes a lot from Tribes, but the movement and gunplay are like COD and BF3.
