That was a good read. Someone on Slashdot said it would probably be a good idea to build the game based on the original specification regardless of how much money you receive and then produce a free expansion pack that adds the extra features in. That way it's easier to budget, people get their project released and in the open faster while helping prevent feature creep by having well-defined goals.

It is so basic. You preserve your scope and time table, you only add what does not damage your timetable. FTL did that.

In a nutshell it all revolves around planning and sticking to that planning, as it is with most things. But it seems that planning is a very difficult thing, apparently.
