Hey,
I know how to model a ship and the basics of getting it in game, but how does one go about actually integrating a race into the game, with tech trees and such?

Re: Integration of Races
If I found out how to do that, I bet I could make my own mod with a race in it...
How do you do that?

Re: Integration of Races
You have to find an unused race letter. This link should be helpful.

Re: Integration of Races
Yes, but is there a tutorial on how to make 3D models and put them in BZ2?

Re: Integration of Races
Heh, my website is pretty limited on tutorials and pretty old. The best reason to visit it right now is the Lizard Mapmaking Tutorials (under 'Features')
I don't have anything up re: 3d modeling.

Re: Integration of Races
Then, where can you find tutorials?
Re: Integration of Races
There is no tutorial I know currently on making 3d models and putting them in BZ2. It's a straight foward process though. Here is a quick one: make a 3d model in your favorite 3d modeler [look their tutorials]. Now there are a couple of ways you can export to XSI 1.1 (the format BZ2 uses). First is to use 3d Exploration to export it's XSI. Second is to export DirectX (.x extension) with your 3d modeler and use X2XSI to convert to XSI (WARNING: not all versions of .x work!). If you have 3d Studios Max, you can just use Dummy's plugins for XSI. If you have Blender, use OvermindD1's Blender XSI exporter. Finally, put the textures you used in the BZ2 addon folder (make sure they are converted to DXTBZ2 first though!). These tools can be found under the thread "Modding Tools and Resources. This is just a quick guide, not a tutorial.
Re: Integration of Races
You can use any race letter you want. Used or not. Just be careful that none of the races active at once use it. IE, if you have a mod adding x, y, and z, don't make a 2nd race with x, y, z, f, or i. Simple.
Now, having your race play nice with other races in a combo mod requires you to be more careful with the letter.
