DXTGen crashing with 4096x4096 textures.

When I try to DXT a .tga texture that is 4096x4096 sized, DXTGen just freezes and fails to do it.

Hmm, you will never need a texture that large ingame anyway!! :P

Perhaps the compressor just doesn't compress such big resolution images.

2048x4096 works.

I only need a texture that large for the skydome. Even 2048x4096 or just 2048x2048 is kinda blurry.

Could you have the skydome use 2 textures kind of 'stitched' together?

Nope. Skydomes can only use a single texture.
