Quad walkers.

Post by XxHAMADEHxX »

While I'm not very good at modeling messing with it made me realized that Battlezone only has bipod walkers(though the mauler appears to be a tripod). This has let me to believe that battlezone only supports bipod walkers. Now theoretically speaking say someone wanted to make a tripod or quad, how would they make the illusion that their vehicle is a tripod or quadruped.

Thought this would make an interesting discussion.

Same way FE did it for Cerberi. 2 invisible "fake" feet for the game engine to use, and then just animate the other 4 physical feet.

P.S. Welcome back :)

The results can be disappointing though, It is a biped system, the fake feet will disappear into or not touch the ground, Non bipeds would need to be mauler like, the fake feet should not move too far away from the real feet or the illusion fails to convince.

I see, so it will only work well with smaller vehicles and mauler like stuff.

It would all be down to the design of the walker. Just realise that it has no idea that it isn't a biped. :)
I have made six legged ones, they actually walk really well, but if you want big then biped is the best way, the bigger they are the more obvious the fakery.

The biggest challenge definitely won't be the number of feet, but animating it believably. I recommend researching how quad walkers move on Youtube and elsewhere, if you can, here's a good start:

Other mods (cough, FE, cough) have grossly failed to make the motion of multi-legged walkers look believable, I'd consider it the greatest challenge when creating such a unit but also the most rewarding. :D

As for the issue of having to create 2 real feet and 2 fake feet... just be glad you aren't working in BZ1 where the entire unit sits on its central pivot. Watching a massive metal death machine clip through the terrain as it climbs the face of a shear cliff... it sure is something.

there's also the Gorgonzola in G66, which i think Avatar animated.
