Version 1.5.1.6 (2012-04-24)

Post by Ultraken »

This build features an attempt to fix for "invisible" units in MP. Give it a try and see how it works out.

I did notice a couple of "ghost" objects during testing but they disappeared after a little while. I haven't figured out what's going on with those yet.

Testing Executable and Symbols

What's New:

* Added new Time Limit selections for MP games (submitted by Dx)
- Display Time Limit values as hours:minutes instead of minutes:seconds

* Prevent special weapon powerup from replacing the Armory object launcher
- That was an unintended side effect of making powerups launch from the catapult "bucket"

* Teams allied with the user always show up on radar (like BZ2)
- It checks from the other team's perspective so the user can't exploit half-alliances

* Attempted a fix for "invisible" units in MP games
- Basically, remote objects can revive after a delay if they keep getting messages

Odf hacks have been reported in this version.

I don't think it's unique to this version. I saw a video of a CCA Pak doing things a Pak clearly shouldn't be doing and suspect it's a modified client executable.

Well that's easy enough to solve if it's the executable.
I saw rapid fire hornets too but that could have been a speed app.

Should make the asset checks done on load in to the world, IIRC bz1 only does it upon entering the game lobby.

In 1.4 yeah, BzE and 1.5 should recheck when any change is made thus booting the hacker out.

When 1.5 was being built, I suspect from reading the threads over the years, there was little to no investigation of the history of the individuals allowed to have hands in the batter, why should there now be 'shock' that there's security issues?

BZ's legs were spread wide to anyone who wanted in, so the hacking came quickly and often. BZ 1.5 was built from an individual from that culture. Again, why be surprised?

Because the best anti-virus people are former hackers?

I think it's just fine that a group of hackers, spork, spock, assman all helped security in 1.5, it's just... they didn't know as much as they thought they did. I did expect Spork had it handled though... I'm not inclined to look into it without someone to test with.

Again, if there were even a few dozen still playing I'd say stay away from it and play BZE or something else, since the cat is out of the perverbial bag with that pedigree looking over it. But with just a handful left playing. . .who really gives a $#@& ?
