Windowed Mode Settings

Post by TwinShadow »

One of my friends doesn't use a setup like I do for gaming, where my desktop is my main machine and I use my laptop for chatting and all that stuff. So, he uses window mode for many games and all that. BZ2 doesn't play too well with window mode and is typically restricted to 640x480 due to its old nature on Windows 98 machines.

Basically, the only way to enter window mode is alt+enter, but setting it through the graphics doesn't work at all. He also claims graphics and other settings don't stick, but I know he's moved the BZ2 directory out of the Program Files and such, so that isn't the problem. I think the problem was the Window Mode setting not even working at all. Since I don't know anyone that plays BZ2 under Window mode, I figured I'll post here about it and see what others might think on how to get this to work right. Might be a shortcut command line switch, but I hardly use those myself..
If you happen to be looking through my posts, I have completely dumped all things related to Battlezone. Do not contact me, do not bother me. Been harassed enough as it is and am done entirely.

He can add some command line flags to start BZ2 in windowed mode and even to set the resolution. For example:

-win -resolution 1280 960

More information about that is contained in readme13.rtf in the Battlezone 2 folder

Working with the windowed mode is not the most intuitive. To move or resize the window you need to go to its the taskbar icon and right-click on it and select the action from the menu.

there's also this in render.cfg and render_editor.cfg:

// Size for onscreen view when in windowed mode -- reachable by
// putting "/win" on the commandline, or hitting alt-enter in the
// shell or a singleplayer game. This must be a resolution that fits
// onscreen.
WindowedWidth = 1680
WindowedHeight = 1050

also tabbing and hitting alt-enter a couple times usually positions it nicely if it's out of position
