Hi GSH,
The latest patch you posted for me took care of the pool upgrade problem. Thanks. I still cannot shoot properly, the auto level is not on. I also get a error message when I log on that I have duplicate files and it list them. Any suggestions about the targeting issue and the duplicate file issue. By the way, do you have a cell phone in the U. S. that I could call you can perhaps get some help while I am on the phone with you.

1) Duplicate files warnings mean that you possibly have multiple conflicting mods, have installed files in the wrong place, or the like. If you try and play online, odds are you will get bad assets kicks from games as you may have a partly modded or tweaked install The 1.3.6.4 full build installer notes that it is best installed over a clean BZ2 1.0(US)/1.1(European) CD install. If you start with a clean install, and put 1.3.6.4 then 1.3.6.4n on top of it, following all the instructions, there are no duplicate files.
2) Some weapons have some recoil, so your ship will move slightly. Auto level sets whether your ship can pitch up/down more (auto level off) or less (auto level on). If you can't point your ship up/down from the horizon via your mouse's vertical axis, go to Options -> Input and reload the mouse configuration. If this is not the answer, you'll have to try and describe -- in written words -- what you're seeing more accurately.
3) These boards are where I and others provide help. I prefer this, because they're searchable (e.g. google) by others, and have a more lasting record than any transient medium.

I understand about the medium, that is fine some are uncomfortable about tallking to someone they don't know. It is just easier to me as I could say well this is what I am seeing or this is what is happening as it happens. As far as the weapons, I can aim the chain gun or sp at the sky but when I shoot, it immediately returns to the middle. Therefore I can't shoot something that is at a distance as it constantly relocates to the middle of the screen. Unless I am right in front of what I am shooting I can't shoot it. For instance I had no leeway in where I shoot, it simply will only shoot the middle of the screen. For example, if I try to go up over a hill sort of like hovering, and fire it will only fire midcenter, I can't adjust at all where it fires. It was not this way in the BZ2 I was playing before I changed to this latest beta patch. I could shoot in any direction at any angle. By the way, thanks alot for all your help. I was a long time bz1 player, and then bz2 and now the latest bz2 beta patch.

And as GSH said, double-check your mouse bindings. Check for things like M1 being bound to center view.

Hey MrTwosheds, its BUM here or as you probably used to know me as Dell on BZ2. Are you still playing alot, I am hoping to start playing again but this weapon problem is driving me crazy. I can't shoot anything but whatever is right in front of me. Talk to you soon. I see it was a bad idea to try and talk to someone on the phone and try and fix this thing. Totally understandable though. Hope to see you soon, in the games. Need to find my original disk to reinstall from scratch as GSH has suggested.

I'm not playing a lot at the moment, life's busy.
A reinstall would probably be the easiest way and your original CD...it should be in a safe! These things are becoming rare. I found my Original International Space Defence Force field manual the other day deep in some long unexplored corner of my house. No sign of the box though.
Options play
Automatic leveling, off
reverse mouse, on
Absolute Pitch, on

Default Mouse?

pitch (analog) mouse y ?
Check all these settings, maybe reseting them will get it going.

Multiple people have told you to try resetting your input configuration:
go to Options -> Input and reload the mouse configuration
