Very nice. would be a nice touch if units and buildings displayed as tiny, simplified wireframes of their 3D models. I guess it all depends on how much work you intend to put into it. :D

i'm thinking tj has developed an appreciation on how difficult it was to develop BZ/BZ2 -or any game, really.

Given that he's been studying it at university for several years now... yes, one would assume that happened some time ago.

Quite a cool idea! I'm currently doing this really 'manually' and it's kind of brute-forceish. I've got a big thread going on the UE forums on how to get better performance out of it, and one of the topics of conversation is to use a procedural mesh instead of vertices with lines going between them. Depending on it's performance mini-meshes could be kind cool!

Either way I've got to keep an eye on performance. With all the extras bells and whistles going on under UE's hood it'll be impossible to match BZ2 (I hit around 2,000+ FPS in BZ these days with less than .5ms thread time :O) - and something as critical to gameplay as the wireframe radar needs to be super-speedy.

Haha, you have no idea.. BZ is a complex beast for sure. Source Code would speed up my efforts fifty-fold but that's unlikely to ever happen.. still it's a good learning exercise.

Well, 18 months officially ;) That's over now anyway - we're officially our own incorporated (and more recently, funded!) studio since September!

Next part of the weapons overhaul... Multi-Select weapons. I was never sure about this change in PB3. Made the Campaign exceptionally easy at times. Does seem awesome though. Some rough edges with the UI side of things but works in MP already.

SHIELDS! I could have gone to town on these, but to be honest I still like the BZ2 shield effects, so went down a similar route.

Nice, not too sure about the flash effect while charging though, it's very pretty but visually right in the way of everything you will be trying to aim at.

Yeah that one was just more proof of concept really, it was fairly trivial to add the support for it :) (all these FX are placeholder btw)

Some folks also suggested always forcing one shot in 'spread' weapons to go exactly on target, just so the players don't feel cheated. Quite a nice idea

I haven't fired BZ1s... I figured it'd be almost the same??

The main reason I did this one when I did was just because I love the sounds!
