I was rather hoping someone would figure out the secret of eternal youth, before I got to old to benefit from it...
Still we have to be getting near the top of the list of oldest computer games that are still in action online.

I'm either going to find the secret to immortality or die trying.
In BZ terms, I will probably keep this PC running purely for it. Once BZ actually works on it.

Starcraft (original), Quake 1-3 all predate BZ2, and are probably at least 10x more active online. Especially Starcraft. 5 million South Koreans can't be wrong. Or something.

When exactly was BZ2 released? I was always under the impression it was late november.

Dec 28th, 1999 in North America. Most games (and music) release on Tuesdays.

I tried to raise my quake 1 from the dead a few months ago... couldn't get it to work properly, checked out a few websites for help but it still failed, gave up in the end.
I couldn't believe how ugly it was on this pc.

Darkplaces FTW.
Also, I played a brief Q1 deathmatch once. Didn't seem anywhere near as involved as BZ strat does
EDIT:

Only because there isn't enough evidence to hold them until Wednesday.

It isn't. Computer gaming evolves, you only realise how limited the games you once loved were, once you have experienced what came after. You have to realise that prior to quake 1 all the in game objects in mp games were literally 2 dimensional.

Oh, I know. But I meant gameplay, not graphical quality. I couldn't care less what a game looks like, so long as it's playable.
Much as I enjoy deathmatch multiplayer in any standard shooter, for some reason Q1's just seemed so limited...

Well, as I stated above, Quake 1-3 (but not Q3:Team Arena) were released before BZ2.
I do consider Q3's release as having hurt BZ2. Q3's framerate is fast and smooth, partly because yet another corridor shooter is far easier to optimize than terrain you can see for miles. (And, Carmack can optimize things out the wazoo.) BZ2's framerate at release was lousy. And it was buggy. So, I remember a lot of people complaining that BZ2 wasn't a solid-60fps game at release, without considering that the game design (corridor shooter) contributes a LOT to that fps.

Unfortunately for the game industry, most gamers don't know what they're talking about.

In what way? Regardless, the only thing the gaming industry cares about is money.

It's an industry. Did you expect something else? Welcome to real life, kid.

Probably in some old cached pages somewhere on google, or Wiki.org as an archived page. It's an all right game, but a lot of people have moved on to better games. I used to be into BZII, but lately I don't know anymore. The new betas are getting massive in terms of file size and older mods become obsolete before their' time. Also, it's get old installing newer versions of a game that isn't all all that great to begin with. After the original 1.3 the game became more of an annoyance trying to keep up with, and modding for it became so obscure that managing the change log stuff just made my head spin trying to keep it all comprehensible; I finally got lost and have been losing oribit on BZII ever since. Don't get me wrong but BZII is like meh?
