Re: FE Error
I just currently had another one but I wasnt able to copy it. I have a Windows 7 hp Pavillion 26-2100 pc and both BZ2 and FE have been running fine, but why do these errors happen occasionally? Is there something I did wrong?
Re: FE Error
Off hand it looks like an error in the mission DLL, but no call stack makes that a bit hard to determine for sure.
Re: FE Error
There's no real context in that crash log. It's somewhere in the Microsoft Visual C/C++ runtime DLL. With a full callstack (what function called what), I can usually try and figure out what happened. With no callstack and crashing in a Microsoft DLL, there's just not enough information quoted above.
The only advice I can give is (1) try and get it to give a full callstack, or (2) get it to happen reliably on demand on my machines at home. I can get more info from either case.

Re: FE Error
For some reason my install on my other pc had Visual C++ Errors occasionally at random times. Is this related? This most recent time I got an error, I went to Multi and then to the Main Menu and I just clicked Single and it crashed. So...........................yeah.
Re: FE Error
Here's some suggestions on how to deal with odd errors:
1) Go to Windows update (on XP, use Internet Explorer (only) to go to http://update.microsoft.com/ ), on Vista/Win7, go to Control Panel -> Windows Update. Install all critical & important updates. Reboot. Repeat until there are no more things to install
2) Check for memory errors.
- Go to http://www.memtest.org/ , and download one of the pre-built configs. You can get a .iso file or USB key. (Note: to burn an ISO, don't burn a data disc with the .iso on it, you need to burn it as an .iso)
- Boot off your install. Let it run overnight. Make sure it reports no errors. If there are errors, there's a problem that needs to be fixed, asap
3) Hammer on the CPU and memory. Download PRIME95 in 32-bit exe or 64-bit exe, install and run. (Use the 64-bit exe on a 64-bit windows.) Start it in torture test mode. Let it run for hours. Make sure it notes no problems.
4) Hammer on your graphics card. Download Furmark from http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/ . Install, run for hours once again.

Re: FE Error
I am doing suggestion 1. There was an update for C++ 2010 cause it said I had a critical problem or something and it needed an update. I hope this fixes it. (The random error is SO annoying.)
Re: FE Error
Repeat step 1 until there's no important/critical updates shown. Optional updates can be skipped.
And, do the rest. BZ2 doesn't use Visual C++ 2010. I suspect transient hardware problems, which the other programs will tend to expose.

Re: FE Error
There are currently no important updates left.
Also, what will these programs do? (esp. the Torture Test thing.) I just don't want to allow any program I don't know mess with my pc. I'm sorry if I'm being difficult, GSH, but I have no idea about computers and such, and with a new pc, I want to be careful.

Re: FE Error
Test test, not torture test.
The reason I blame the mission DLL is I have caused such errors with stupid DLL coding and its probably the main "moving part" in FE.

Re: FE Error
The Torture Test is with number 3.
Also, if it IS mission DLL, then there's nothing I can do about it, right? BZ2 on its own hasn't caused any problems.

Re: FE Error
might be caused by runtime error, usually caused by a parameter mismatch on an sprintf() statement. if so, my bad; i'll check.

Re: FE Error
On my last pc, it was a Visual C++ Runtime Error.
And if you can fix this, I'll be in your debt.

If clicking on 'multi' triggered this, then any/all mission DLLs are irrelevant to this discussion. Mission DLLs are loaded maybe 2/3 of the way in launching a map. No mission DLLs are loaded in the pregame shell.Off hand it looks like an error in the mission DLL
