QF2 Discussion

Post by AI_Unit »

Well, I must say. I was very happy with the produced result of QF2. Very thorough campaign, very smooth gameplay. All worth the wait in my opinion. Only trouble I had was with one of the missions not working, however apart from that, I enjoyed it.

Good Job BBB

What did you guys think?

I'm low on time these days so I won't get a full play through till later, probably once it is patched. Ironically I could end up helping with patches depending before ever seriously playing it :(

All I can say is his cutscenes with the humans tripped my uncanny-valley senses.

Is there any chance to change the map/radar size and cockpit fonts?

** Spoiler Alert **

I kept getting annoyed with failing the first mission and ended up rage-quitting like 5 times, everytime I got the car out of the garage, I couldn't move anywhere without being spotted. Going to go back to Minecraft for a while instead ;)

It's not really that hard. You've just gotta move behind the fence quickly. I know it's a bit tough for the 1st mission, but the story of the mod surrounding the occupation took precedence over ease of playability in early missions.

It would perhaps have been better for gameplay if there had been a little longer between being spotted and failure, to give the player the chance to get back into cover (the mechanics as they are are quite unbalanced). This is the same reason the world-border gun towers in Borderlands don't shoot you immediately. Such quick failure leaves the player confused as to why they failed, and doesn't give them any chance to correct their mistake.

I already did, but perhaps I could slow down the surveillance tower rotation rate even further for the patch.

Well I cheated through the first mission, started the second and the dialogue just got too much for me, also the .dll controlling the players graphics options was pretty frustrating too, it's WAY too dark on my screen.

Now imagine my feeling about these dialogs... English is not my first language.

Hey BBB - was hoping you might be able to help me out. I have been trying to install QF2 but keep getting a DX9 error on start-up (not present before QF installed).
Specifically it says "The program can't run because d3dx9_40.dll is missing from your xomputer. Try reinstalling the program to fix the problem."

I have tried in 1.365 and in 1.364(43), the log file for the latter copied below.

Would really appreciate your help getting this up and running. Apologies if I have missed a previous reporting of this issue.

Many thanks,
voxnat

Run Redist\DX9\DX9setup.exe. Installing the prerequisites that come with 1.3 is a good way to prevent errors like this.

I don't recall if BZ2 1.3.5/1.3.6 natively uses v40 of DX9. If you have an internet connection -- and you should if you're reading this -- then run the Redist\DX9\DX9WebInstaller . That will install all possible versions of the DX9 helper DLLs -- up to 40/41 versions of the helper DLLs, in 32 and/or 64-bit versions. Then reboot.
