BZII High Resolution texture mod RELEASED

Post by coxxon »

Back in '08 or was it '05 I messed around with the ISDF and Scion textures to make them higher resolution. After that initial work I kind of dropped it and BZII. Then over Xmas 2014 I came back to it, went a little crazy, and rebuilt EVERYTHING. Well not everything, but close.

So, after 300+ hours of work, this mod contains over 700 textures from the Battlezone II CD data.pak.
Almost all textures used in-game have been replaced with either 1024px (from 256px) textures or 512px, quaded ground textures.

My goal for this was not to do my own designs, but to capture and make as good, if not better all those, now-a-days tiny 256px textures at a much larger, clearer size. Though, there are some places where I added my own touches to improve or clarify images (Why would there be paper magazines, or water towers on Pluto?). The mission load screens, cursor, icons, wireframes, and reticles have also been redone to remove blurriness, or add clarity.

Features:
- 700+ dxtbz2 images
- 1024px object textures
- Multiplayer skins
- Bumpmaps for the things that used them
- 512px rebuilt/enhanced ground textures
- New icons
- New wireframes that aren’t wireframes. (never liked the old wireframes or orientation)
- Rebuilt weapon reticles
- Resized/cropped/enhanced level load screens – set for 1080p, no more stretching
- New health gauge (it’s the plain old one, but less fuzzy)
- Rebuilt game cursor
- Pdf guide to images if you want to remove specific textures

If you have a site that hosts BZII mod files, I’d be happy if you hosted the zip file.

Hope you like ‘em, I sure have.

I also did quite a lot of work on some Hi res textures some time ago, I have most of the original terrain, sprites, sky etc all reworked out to 1024x1024 or 512x512 (skys at 2048x2048) What is uncompleted are the racial unit and building textures.
Totally failed to get anyone else to help much... Might be cool to compare what we have and see if they = awesome. :D

Did the Fury mod not pan out? I think I remember you had been working on a fury themed mod around the time Public Beta 1 was in development.

This was the terrains as of 2012...I have done quite a bit more since then but have not uploaded them yet. Have been taking a long break from it for a while.
Browsing Coxxon's thumbs, I believe a Melding of the two projects could be desirable, as we appear to have taken different approaches to the task.
I will find time to sort my stuff out and upload soon.

it is good to take a break from things now and then, as it clears the mind.

RD - and that number is a conservative estimate, considering that I did a good bit of initial work years ago.

Textures look great but I cannot say I like the new icons. These dark lines make icons difficult to grasp, especially over mixed structures: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/409 ... oard02.jpg.

Can someone post comparison pictures or something so I can see if this is worth the trouble of downloading?
This is where my signature picture would normally be. It is not, as you can see.
You're wasting your time reading this. :)
