Re: 1.3.6.5 request
There was an open source version of BZ2 already made, it's called Minecraft, and it was made by Blizzard.

Re: 1.3.6.5 request
euh..we have actually a blacklist.Nielk1 wrote:A blacklist would destroy the game. We need to prevent trolls from chasing away new players. All the people I have brought into this game that have left again due to how they were treated. I don't think I can get them to ever come back.
57 people last year, I stopped bothering to keep track after that. That would have what, quadrupled the active player count?
So, if you just have exchange "whitelist" by "blacklist" in your phrase, i will answer that: i don't ask an automatic whitelist by default, i ask an option for backward the blacklist, what make a whitelist.
Re: 1.3.6.5 request
I meant whitelist OBVIOUSLY...
And if you want to just have your own blacklist just get peerblock and put it on "BLOCK EVERYTHING" mode.
Or, ya know, put a password on your games.

Re: 1.3.6.5 request
it'd be helpful to have a whitelist as well.
If given the truth, the people can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts - and beer.

Re: 1.3.6.5 request
Perhaps it has it uses, but a password or simply not connecting to the internet does a pretty decent job as well. The issue comes when people cant organise themselves or cant remember a password that has been communicated.
But is it really up to GSH to facilitate those people's needs?
N1's statement about killing the game is pretty spot on though. If new players dont have games to join cause everybody just locks/whitelists their games you will never get a chance to actually get on that whitelist .. and that, together with the constant griefing and elitism, wont do BZ2 any good.

What about playing with friends?a password or simply not connecting to the internet does a pretty decent job as well.
My point is to play only whith know guys, but i think you all have understand that..

Hum hum, the actual reason is not password/ban games, it's only 40 différent mods used, and not too much games with the regular BZ2.
And i often see people who come in my games just for say to all "hey come to my game to G66/VSR/otherMod, they come 2,3 times, they spam!
Re: 1.3.6.5 request
Get their email, or put them in a PM-group here and send them the password you use.
Block the people that annoy you, if they lack the manners to not come in your game just to try and draw people to an other game, they probably should be on your banlist.

Re: 1.3.6.5 request
/kick is an incredibly useful tool. If someone you don't want to play with joins a public game, kick 'em.
battlezone.wikia.com needs your help!
Re: 1.3.6.5 request
/ban is a lot more usefull, you'll figure out why /kick has a rather negative effect on your game when you try it ...
Re: 1.3.6.5 request
Posted on the wrong thread so i copy/paste here:
More complex to implement but:
what about a mixed list? I mean a three-parts list:
-People who are enabled to play with the host.
-People who are disabled to play with the host.
-People who are unknow from the host.
The two first parts eliminate the third part neccesity.
So a mixed-list whith two parts (black and white list, working together, plus a choice for allow unknows or not)
EDIT: when i say a choice, i mean a ingame button in the game options (where you have the joiners on/off button).
We actually have a "kick" and a "ban" button, so why not adding a "add to friends list" button.

Re: 1.3.6.5 request
Ive already submitted a request for a whitelist allowing the server to either reject a connection, not on the whitelist, or to prompt for a password.
Re: 1.3.6.5 request
If a whitelist were added, it should be disabled by default. Enabling it should be the server's responsibility along with configuring it. I would be more than happy to post the IPs of players I have encountered so far, along with the CIDR of their ISP.
Re: 1.3.6.5 request
White lists should not be added.
They would destroy the game.
The only way any form of whitelist should be allowed is if it can be updated live from an external source, thus it would become a game through a 3rd party system (account system?) but if it functions just like the banlist it's pretty much a game killer.
