BZ2 just didn't get a Direct3D (version 9) device. If it didn't crash here, it would crash at the next point looking for a Direct3D device. Everything in the code is predicated around a working Direct3D 9 device. Check your drivers, system, etc. There's nothing in the log that indicates why this is happening. Maybe try the /safemode commandline shortcut -- there's a shortcut in the Start Menu that has that already present.

thinking you should also not run bz2 out of program files, but from its own folder outside of there, like C:\BZ2

BZ2 can be run from anywhere with equal success. 1.3 saves files in the proper location to not have issues with directory permissions as well. Please don't spread rumors and falsehoods. It is hard enough to keep things stable around here.

One would expect any issues in running from %programfiles% would have been dealt with in the ~7 years since Vista's release. There are none in the database and I've seen none reported.

BZ2 has no issues running it out of program files (if it does, show me a use case). The only time it might is if you're using currently running 1.2 or a very old beta (e.g. PB3) on Windows Vista or newer.

BZ1 1.3.6.x has worked fine running from a subdirectory under "C:\Program Files" (or "C:\Program Files (x86)" which is preferred on a 64-bit system)

Some more thoughts:
- Your directory name is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Battlezone II 1.3.6.2 VSR" - remember that a full build installer like 1.3.6.5 will rename any old addon folder. So, make sure you have reinstalled any mod(s) you want. That's why it's recommended to patch a clean install from CD, not something with a lot of cruft left over from previous mod(s), etc.

- Your log notes that BZ2 was minimized, possibly before you finished starting up. Focus stealing applications are evil and cause havoc. Please disable addon programs that may be stealing focus away from a program you just launched.

(And, yes, I moved this topic to an appropriate forum)

No, you inferred it (pretty strongly) by saying that he should install it elsewhere. (You also accused Nielk1 of spreading rumours and falsehoods, and if by that you didn't mean his above post then you were just being petty.)

When Windy and I bought the new pc's we could not get the 1.3 patch to work in Program Files, when RD suggested just using a folder under C:\ we tried it, it worked and never went back. Not looking for an explanation, but just want to thank RD. Whatever works. Hope this works for you Tubbut.

Are you on Vista or Windows 7 machines? Early during 1.3 development, it would not work properly under C:\Program Files, if you weren't running the program as an administrator. That issue should have been fixed a long time ago.
