Key Combination CTRL B

Post by Cyber »

hey,

something was going crazy with my bz2 6.1
As I played, the CTRL-Button was suddenly the bail-button, so I bailed about 3times until I realised what was happening lol.
I "cleared" the Bail function and wanted to put it again on CTRL+B. But as soon I press CTRL, the CTRL button is the bail button again.
Is there a file where those key-bindings are saved?

C:\Program Files (x86)\Battlezone II 1.3pb6.1\addon\config\GamePrefs.ini (Address may very) Open the GamePrefs.ini with notepad and scroll to the bottom, you will find the keys your looking for. It sounds like your GamePrefs file is not saving when you are in game, which I have heard of this problem where W7 does not let you edit anything in program file, WHICH IS RETARDED, I have never had that problem but you might and it might be effecting the games ability to save the changes. You might have to copy the game folder to your documents or something if W7 is doing this to you, it's not a but, its a built in safety thing -.-

First, ignore all advice from Dataanti above. (If not, all advice in general. Reality and what he post only have tenuous connections at times.) Gameprefs.ini has nothing to do with the ctrl-b key binding, and as the comments at the top of that file note, end users should NOT be modifying Gameprefs.ini.

If you want to go back to the stock bindings, the way to do this since 1.0 has been to do Main Menu -> Options -> Input -> (pick a default; keyboard or mouse are good starting points) -> Load button.

I think he is on default and this is happening, I thought it was like my bracket buttons are mixed when chatting in the game, I had to go into gameprefs and change the keys so they would work properly, I thought he has the same problem with the CTRL and the B button.

Also... I miss understood OP...

>.>

<.<

I thought his CTRL was the B button for him and B is CTRL, and then I realized to eject it's a combo and not just one button... In which case I have know idea whats wrong... and isn't CTRL+B already default for eject, which means changing the keys to default would do nothing... Also While looking in the key options I noticed that target is set on T+LeftCTRL but I only have to press T to target, perhaps this is a problem with the game and not just him? CTRL+T does nothing in game... Also my key options are set to default.

If all else fails and you do want to do it manually, there is a (iirc) input file or something similair in the pak-files, it allows you to edit keys you normally CAN NOT edit. There you can also create 'combined keys' (which the shell doesnt seem to allow).

Dat, you should never change anything in gameprefs. Make all your changes in localprefs instead.

I can only assume because it gets overwritten with each new release.

No, its because gameprefs is assumed by the engine as persistent and if it changes you have effectively created a situation where you cannot connect to anyone because of incompetence. Localprefs is an exact copy of gameprefs except that it is not checked for sanity by the engine (Last I checked, don't have an install on my rig to verify :? ).

Meh... I have been for years and I have not had any connection problems, I mostly only change the keys so my ~ would work in game, I do this every new version of the game.

Do it in localprefs in future. GSH didn't code this for s**ts and giggles.

AHadley, not the key-combination, the Bz2-command for eject.
