BZE1.3 pretty much has gone to gold.

It's now a completely playable, win7 32&64bit compatible version using DX9. Playing it at 1900x1200 @ 60FPS makes it look almost like a new graphics engine.
Sounds finished, not discontinued.

Yes, it's pretty much finished. At the time of my previous post I was unaware of the details. Dx won't be doing anything on it in a looong time at this rate.

TRO and Battlegrounds are the expansion packs, BZE is a mod/unofficial patch.

No. He's done with the computer for quite a while. RL reasons.

It has been brought up. Ken does not have the source code, or at least didn't when I last mentioned it.

Ever see the very end of Raiders of the Lost Ark where a box is wheeled into a giant warehouse, filled with many other boxes? Most game's source code is like that. It's usually archived right at the end of release, and thrown into a giant pile of other backups. If it's been more than 3-5 years since archiving, I wouldn't be surprised if nobody knew where to find it, as the combination of normal employee turnover and sloppy record keeping means it'd take *real* effort to find. The kind of effort that costs $$$. And that's for companies (e.g. Activision) that are still in business. Trying to get source code when the developer and publisher are bankrupt and closed (e.g. 3DO) is far harder.

In short, it's a royal pain to try and find source code for something unless you're ready to pony up the $$$ for the legal and IT work to try and find things. And then, you better pray that the backup tapes still work, weren't flooded, etc.

Been listening to Spock or something? lol

BZE is just fine.

Anyone wondering where to get it, it is now available for download here and the expansion pack here.

In the case of BZ most of the developers didn't keep a copy of the code.
Ken didn't even keep a copy. :D

Got BZE the other day after a link was posted elsewhere. Plays beautifully, I'm suprised I didn't get it sooner.

Also, Fulmen is also against Spock as far as I can tell. BZ2Maps has entered the fray :P

Yes, it has been playing very smoothly for quite some time.

There were several RC candidates for 1.3 but most were minor bug fixes. It's as done as it's going to get for the time being. :)

I think anyone that's a mature individual that is willing to think for themselves and check for themselves instead of taking someone's comments as gospel, will eventually have trouble dealing with spock.
