BATTLEZONE 1 TOURNY

Post by Psyringe »

incision is planning a Battlezone 1 Tournament Event, featuring MODS and standard rules. Before we launch our campaign we're curious what Virtual LAN players employ the most, seeing as how RakNet is no longer available.

incision intends to host multiple servers for several days - potentially across multiple VLAN's - to fill what could be a growing need. This is also an attempt to gauge resources for a new multipurpose business/gaming server incision will be employing.

Thanks for your input!

BZ1 works completely differently to BZ2 on the networking front. Matchmaking is handled privately and there are two servers operational, only one of which really has any activity.

I do hope that you're able to garner interest for this. I personally don't have a LAN preference, I'll use what people are using.

Your absolutely right. This topic is irrelevant to Battlezone 1.

incision will be setting up a new ANet regardless - more information on that will unfold with progress of the BZII multiplayer situation.

With the current condition of the BZ1 community(ies) another Anet is going to end up as a waste of computer, time, and possibly money. There is already a server that gets more action per day than BZ2 does in a week; the rest get so little it isn't even comparable to either.

incision will be sharing it's server (and storage space) with developers in the Battlezone community. For the Tournament aspect and considering the development/mod/testing community incision will host a custom ANet. But we appreciate the input. There is a development that we are specifically excited for and will be eager to support on its completion.

Users should be aware that their servers.dat may be modified (varying on installation), and that a complete listing can be found here | http://www.kegel.com/anet/master/servers.txt

You can edit this file.
If you want to roll your own from scratch:

Optional: edit bootserv.txt to list server IP addresses and names that you want
Delete servers.dat
Launch the game
Go to multiplayer
Select Internet
Anet will rebuild servers.dat
Our custom server, which the money has already been invested for digital content distribution for files (20gb or larger) is an always on gigabit connection with more space than we dream to fill right now. It's located on a prime location in Denver, Colorado. ANet is nothing compared to what we really plan to do in the long-term for server usage, it's like flipping a switch from "off" to "on" at the cost of virtually no CPU.

After much consideration, having a chance to research ANet as a whole, we've deemed it to be a security hazard. 8-)

If we do host an ANet, it will be for the duration of the Tournament. Modern VLANS work testing modern mods. Sorry about the confusion.

Mmm. A bit too much CPU to put at stake, if you ask me. ;)
