Just depends on how you want to look at it.
For instance, which is/are the sane place(s) you are refering to?

Evil Is a very simple concept, that which works against the Creation, the evil corporations identify themselves by their activities, or their hiding of them. You would do better to stop hunting bogey men in your short sighted human political games. Find the harm, work backwards towards the evil and judge whoever you find causing it, irrespective of their "political" cloaking.
Political loyalty is a fools game. Evil is pervasive and very profitable in the short term...

i think he's kinda like me and doesn't care for either because they are both just cut from opposite ends of the same cloth.

If given the truth, the people can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts - and beer.

That would be treason? I think...
Its just an outlook grown from years of observing politics and the ways of the world. Politicians (all of them) are just professional bullshiters. That is not an insult, it is a job description. They seek your support because in a democracy they need it, they would love your loyalty... but to a man would consider you a abject fool for giving it.
I vote, but would never align myself with one side or the other, they get my vote if I think they have some idea's that might actually work. These days however the political fashion is the avoid the real subjects at all cost and just word play on things likely to make people feel indignant, righteous or oppressed. I am not fooled by their smoke screens and tricks, I try to see what it is they are trying to not talk about, this is usually far more informative than anything they might actually say.
I don't really follow American politics much, I did catch a bit of Obama talking about new sustainable technologies the other day, was a bit surprised...few UK politicians would dare to lets us see them actually thinking about what really needed to be done, they much prefer rosy fictions of the past, so do most voters, nice comfortable good old how it used to be, even though it never was and never will be...

I would just stick to them being professional opportunists, that way you might find a way you can have them work in your favour instead of being disappointed by them.

I'd like a more informative story on this case but there don't appear to be any floating around.

I did find that the attackers are minors themselves, though.

What more do you need to know? too much booze + youthful hormones. Someone honestly tell me they can expect to be able to drink yourself unconscious in public and remain perfectly safe, at the very least I would expect to seriously annoy my hosts, have my wallet stolen and be subjected to some degrading treatment or other by those around me.
If you are going to embrace the substance abuse culture, don't be surprised when you get abused yourself or indeed find yourself being accused of abusing others, its an abusive lifestyle, don't expect the law to protect you from your own stupidity.
Frankly, unless she had been raped, I don't see the purpose of the court case, she is the one who needs to learn how to look after herself.
