server down

Couldn't see any games up. Couldn't even make a lan game, what's up. Usually you can at least do that!

We played a lan game by using the "Join IP Address" button. I had to look up our ip addresses in the network.

LAN only should work w/o gamespy.

Checking the links to Gamespy Status, nothing's listed.

Gamespy was bought out two months ago. Ideally, nothing should change as a result of that. But, I'm not in charge.

Hmm no server list.
Maybe the new owners think were not worth the effort any more.

Nielk1 said something to me over Psi (or Jabber) about this. The new owners have apparently closed the old protocol or something like that that BZ2 uses, so you can't use Gamespy anymore for multiplayer. Looks like y'all will have to do IP's in the meantime.
If you happen to be looking through my posts, I have completely dumped all things related to Battlezone. Do not contact me, do not bother me. Been harassed enough as it is and am done entirely.

Matchmaking in 1.3 insta-errors, doesnt seem like it gives any time to query gamespy, just instantly tells you that there is a connection problem.

1.2 matchmaking is working again, apparently. (confirmed via a test game)

I have sent Gamespy an email asking about the status. Their servers respond with a 'disabled' flag when BZ2 asks their status. They are on the US West Coast, so it's still early.

If you start BZ2 with /lanonly , that status code is not executed. And, read the nettips.rtf file distributed with 1.3.6.2 for which port to connect to. Please don't use advice that worked with BZ2 1.2 -- that's ancient history, and wrong by now.

I warned on the IRC about what 'Glu Mobile' was doing with GameSpy, having used their 'Open Program' for free to put match making in their mobile games, and then buying GameSpy after having some big losses and closing the program (retroactively I might add) by December 19th, to the point that all games using it will be locked out.

Looking at their general practices I suspect lock-downs, higher cost for games to use GameSpy, and the eventual loss of the entire system to financial collapse.

Any new status from Gamespy? I so love this game, and would be depressed if couldn't play MPI anymore...
