Where Haz The Online Games Gone?

Post by DarkCobra262 »

I've been on BZ2 the past couple days and haven't seen any game going besides one I joined 2 days ago with Axeminister and his wife playing G66... (Yes I have the latest update with Raknet and such)

I've seen a bunch of games over the past few days at various hours. My recommendation: host a game, see who joins? With 1.3.6.*, it is not necessary to know the magic commands to make a router forward packets.

Also, if you don't see the "Latest Patch: v1.3.6.4b Public Beta" session, odds are you have a local internet security program that is blocking your request.

I've only seen that session honestly, the only other one I saw a couple days ago, like I said, was Axeminister and Windy playing G66. I played with them for a little while. I can keep checking to see if there are any games, I suppose.

I haven't tested to even see if any servers are open(or even if my bz server sniffing software up to date these days) but one tool you'll get tired of me recommending is at http://tinyurl.com/vtxgamers its friend trackers Can be used to keep friends up to date as to who's playing what games and on which servers. I hope some of us will congregate there to influence the young people in that network to expose themselves to some old school quality rts tanking like they've never gotten the chance to witness...anyway, stay tuned...! btw if anyone wiling to share any info as to how best to find good bz game host sessions plz pm me and also maybe here is a good thread to share..but keep i mind how you share in case of griefers and troll noobs. I'm thinking maybe since Gamespy went down there could be some kind of rss or mailing list clerk to update the elite list of players on any as needed updates to the best server hosts..etc any volunteers to make that happen..is it already happening and I'm just to peripheral to be on the inside track :? be cool guys!

Same recommendation as above: don't see a game to join? Then host a game!. Just hit the 'create game' button, top center above the list of games. If someone joins and is a jerk, get their IP addresses. And send them on. I can't see what's on your screen. Be useful, and you'll help everyone.

True,I have to agree with what GSH said, Thats why the levels I'm supposed to be working on are being designed for extended solo, mpi and ffa modes. My goal in these is to make it so if human players sit still for too long, ais will rebuild their factions in random places..you will have to constantly search for new ai stragglers and or send a hunting npc squad out in the buffer zones to look for them as well. If you don't, eventually ai fleets will come looking for your scrap pools/geysers/flag, dropping advanced startup colonies along the way. In bz1 I'm using custom minelayers and mines that spew out units to create random quick colonies, aips will work to tell the ai to upgrade...in ffa and mp maps aips wont work but I still make some empty starter units and or some respawning units and I could get away with starting ai factions by placing ai pilots on the map to run and occupy the units..the unhandled exception didn't seem to apply to pilot units, so once the map is started they can get into the ships and it won't crash the game to have a player 2 faction in the map even though there is no human player 2. This is also good for balancing play in non synch join games, because it means if noone hunts down the ai johnny appleseeds in time, then late joiners might have some already made units/bases waiting for their command when they join. Most of the maps I'm working on currently are going to be kinda tough to get started building anything advanced enough to dominate a map very quickly working alone, so they'll be kind've more rpg-like than most other bz maps I've played...unless your very conservative with your resources and planning (To support this kind of long term economy mapmakers can create alternate scrap economies with a build hierarchy of tuggable dummy scrap containers and buildings..or for maps where scrap is to precious to waste on mp players who might die or get dropped out of the game create a neutral ai faction that handles almost all the scrap economy while players have to wait for the neutrals to build useful/valuable units they can take over, snipe,or use switcher weapon to temporarily own a construction unit long enough to build something for like a constructor droid for them. What this also means though is that even if everyone else stops I'll probably still be playing/creating BZ games and map levels. maybe I'll make a series of quick maps that utilizes some of these ideas as examples since my other projects are taking my entire lifetime to finish up..If I do I'll post links to them...ummm True,I have to agree with what GSH said, Thats why the levels I'm supposed to be working on are being designed for extended solo, mpi and ffa modes. still though I would have to argue that the solution you offer is the obvious one that pre-exists in the game and already leads to empty tank rooms my solution is more viable to maintain a community in real time..utilize the friend tracking feature of the guild hosting site, along with forums, streaming live videos,on networks like twitch and convincing new gamers on social sites to play, along with what you suggest are the only ways to try to maintain a decent player base. If someone has a facebook group they should post it in this thread..IF I start one I'll post it. cool misqoute you should put the video of him telling us we're going into space. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouRbkBAOGEw ALSO found a directory for streaming bz2 videos on twitch. If anybody starts streaming on their channel I'll host it on mine as well (if I can) its a win/win because that will give my channel some content since I don't stream anything yet.http://www.twitch.tv/directory/game/Bat ... deos/month

Thats a good question I can't figure it out either its my recruitment page for BZ2 on the guild site enjin, but I i just verified that it is currently active and published..I'll try to figure it out..you shouldn't have to be a member of my guild site Vortex Pendulum Gateway in order to view the page because that would kind've defeat the purpose of a recruitment page..so I don't think thats the reason, but I'll double check my settings. ?\ access denied..hmm was it a message generated by enjin or your browser?

Nope, it's the gateway. It redirects to http://vtxgate.enjin.com/login.

Re: recruitment page mystery

Post by Cliffhangr13 »

I see whats happening there now..the recruitment pages are not accessible as stand alone web pages. you have to use enjin's search field eg lookup Battlezone II combat commander to see the page i created(I'm the only guild recruiting there. As far as the link If users can access it at all they probably have to be members of my guild site at enjin Vortex Pendulum Gateway. I'm not even sure if its accessible then either..otherwise you have to use search engine..glad you guys noticed that for me, I am less likely to make a fool of myself again. Most of the other pages of The Gateway are viewable by public for now. I've spent all day messing around with the site and settings and making a new promotional post in my forum their..only now finally i figured out the problem with the BZII recruitment page..when you search it you'll see what I mean: its a script container or something like facebook uses when you click on a picture..it doesn't go to the actual page, it just pops out of the frame until you do something with it or x it out! those sneakysneaky devs..are doing everything they can to keep us users from exporting content to other networks! Those backwards, antiquated bastards! Anyway If you want you can join my site it should be fairly simple for now I don't even have my complicated application forms finished and activated yet! IN the future I'll probably start only accepting applications from users who joined enjin through my affiliate link http://tinyurl.com/vtxgamers unless they have a referrer/sponsor, but for now its as easy as 1-2, u get approved. The freshly discovered limitation ( i had to log out to see for myself) crimps my style a little bit but I'll get around it eventually I was going to use those pages as little splash pages to promote my various gaming projects among people I don't expect or want to join my site, or semi-permanent instruction procedures to members of my site (which I should be able to still do...actually can anyone join my site "Pendulum" to test my theory to see if the perma link(s) will work at least for members of my site? I'd be very grateful and feature your wall in enjin profile wall in my "Vortex Champions Update" module there. ;)

I think I need to reinstall BZ2 and the BZ2 13 in separate directory. I'm so confused by the directory structure now and game freezes during combat long enough for me to get pwned by ai..I just feel i need to reset..problem is I think my discs are all in storage due to irl troubles..maybe I'll look for an iso or something.. :?
