I see it quite allot in mpi vs scions. In strat not so much but that's probably due to them not surviving to the bomber stage of the game. they do shoot at bombers if they are there.I have yet to see a guardian try to shoot down a bomber.

Re: Planes (again)
Re: Planes (again)
Storytime...
I was fortunate enough to have Kens ear really early in 1.3 development - he quickly fixed some niggly view distance issues among other things that were stopping a few shows. After seeing some of the new stuff he also expressed interest in the potential of the Epic TC (ground+aerospace) as proof of concept for a BZ3 - apparently a few Pandi guys were maybe keen to go that way after Lucas and Mercs. He may have been humouring me
At that stage most modders were still using high altitude hovers as planes because aircraft were broken,(any dedicated AA weapon was usually some kind of unreliable ODF hack using rotated HP geometry or big signatures etc.) They are OK for AI but crap to fly but Epic has lots of sky and aircraft was part of the concept...
It's really only relatively recently that planes were reliable enough to integrate in a big way - that in itself was kinda unexpected, but they are actually pretty damn good. Reconfiguring and testing 3 races of fighters and bombers to use the new class (both over ground and in space) was lots off trial and error but in the end with the right ODFs they can even do the whole Newtonian space battle thing really well, not to belabour the deadly accurate carpet bombing runs and some wicked dogfights. As far as integration into the ground battle, it varies. Faster Fighters (except for baiting hungry Maulers) have little effect on the ground battle in terms of combat, but bombers seem allergic to them so they do their job. Bombers are just dangerous, as are slower more "chopper" like physics rigs which tend to shred fleeing tanks from above.
I was really stoked to have so many of my personal bugs squished so early in the dev cycle, so I try not to bother GSH with requests. In this case however it seemed like an actual bug (or at least a glaring inconsistency) especially given that planes are so choice I'm a designer, I like great visuals - and some of the best moments I've seen in BZ2 yet have come from playing with these new planes. BZ2 is a game that just keeps getting better with age. I was only half joking about the shaders - if this had normal maps and working shadows it would be utterly magnificent.

If it's not within it's engage range probably not, but when I've gotten in to my own aircraft enemy turrets regardless of type will pepper my craft just the same. Rocket Tank are especially lethal as are Gun Turrets and Spires.AHadley wrote:I have yet to see a guardian try to shoot down a bomber.

The whole point of this topic is that aircraft are not treated as bombers. Or weren't supposedly until now.
