"Higher debt increases interest payments on the debt, which already exceed $430 billion annually as discussed below, or about 15 cents of every tax dollar for 2008.[43] According to the CIA Factbook, nine countries have debt to GDP ratios over 100% for 2010,
the largest of which is Japan at approximately 197.5%.[44]"
so...:
1. japan runs out of money
2. japan cashes in 1 trillion dollars (that $1,000,000,000,000.00) worth of us treasury bonds - or tries to!
3. us says, hey, sure - in your dreams
4. china gets nervous and tries to do the same

5. us dollar becomes
worthless overnight
6. us dollar ceases to be reserve currency of THE WORLD
7. gas goes to $20 a gallon overnight
8. hot dogs cost $20 overnight
9. people start eating their shoes
10. RD laughs

From the article, it looks like it's the US government that requires the censorship.
They don't require censorship...Just the US gov decided that
anyone who does business with Iran cannot do business with the US. Its a much simpler approach to diplomacy than the usual discussion and respect. But of course it is seen by many as forcing them to accept US authority, rather than that of bodies such as the UN. I can't see it working out well. Iran will not back down, so if they are attacked, it will be time for China and Russia to decide what the New World Order looks like. China will not sit idle while the US move towards their border (with Iran) So this whole daft argument about one small nation, may well re divide the world into a cold war situation again. Allowing all that manufacturing to move to china could yet turn out to be a very very expensive mistake.

agreed.
hmm, a greed...
"moving" all those factories there was dumb; reminds me of isaac selling his birthright for a bowl of pottage.

It's a long read and old news to anyone who's been paying attention, still worth reading though.
How the GOP stole the nomination

Don't fancy his chances much, there will be hundreds of people who will want to see him suffer and die very slowly. Plenty of other prisoners might want to make hundreds of new friends...

Romney could devour live children on TV, and most of the base would still vote for him because anything, ANYTHING is better than Obama in their minds. They are ruled by fear, sprinkled with comforting lies, and it works. They are too far in now to repudiate them, and admit to the world they were taken by fools, so they double down. They're scared of the opposition, AND scared of being revealed as patsies. Those angry "Libertarians" from the convention will be over it by November, and vote Romney like there was never any question.
It's interesting that the fear technique isn't so effective with the left. They seem much more likely to say "screw you guys, I'm voting for Moonbeam McGreeny", unless they are directly promised benefits. You'd think the more allegedly capitalist mindset would do the cost benefit analysis, come to the conclusion that they're getting hosed, and do something to change the situation, even if it was a long term strategy. I suppose the armageddon fetish precludes long-term thinking.
The funny thing is, despite what the candidates from either side promise, their actions are inevitably the same. More government. More wars. More debt. Less freedom. Every damn time, the masses go slack jawed when they whip out that hypnotic watch. They know that if they can only 'take america back' everything will be ok, despite having taken america back dozens of times, and seeing things continue to spiral out of control.
Mental illness on a massive scale. Makes me think of that Star Trek episode with Landru, where they kept asking them "Are you of the body?"

US politics is utterly ridiculous. It needs a variant of Godwin's Law.
As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a republican blaming the issue on those commie liberals approaches 1. Similarly, the probability of a democrat blaming the republicans also approaches 1.

Interestingly enough I think that would be the only way Romney would get a vote from me.
"Oh your president eliminated your country's debt, eh? Not bad, but mine eats babies. Top that."

HERE is maybe the most shocking aspect of the whole convention. Even beating ol' grandpa talking to an empty chair.

But if I understand correctly, your not going to get the opportunity to vote Libertarian,as there will only be 2 (party's) candidates at the actual election?
