Microsoft seems to want to kill the PC and get everyone on tablets with the cloud and their xboxes where they get a cut of everything.

Why not? Apple does the exact same thing with their iOS ecosystem.

Its all pretty much exactly the same, the only difference is what hardware you use. Nothing has really changed.

On the subject of Ubuntu. What the bloody hell have they done to it. I can't find anything akin to a program menu anywhere, all I can find is a hellish Mac like doc. If I wanted that, I would buy a mac.

Gave W8 RTM a quick try in a VM. First thought: this isn't going to end well.

What ever happened to just typing the necessary info during setup and just boot to the OS? I don't want to answer "do you want to share info with us?" or "do you want apps to share info?" to be the first thing it asks me during the setup. Those can wait until AFTER its done.

And don't get me started on MetroUI. That UI is the most repulsive piece of **** I've ever seen from a Windows OS. I thought Aero was ugly (despite the fact I use it, but Aero Basic is even more ugly..) but god damn, why did they have to use it as a main-stay for a desktop PC. Yes, it works on the 360 and/or tablets, but not so much when you're on a PC trying to get stuff done. At least with any version before it, you knew where stuff is immediately and can get to it in a snap. Now? Good luck trying to get into explorer, since they "hid" that slightly unless you know how to get the All Apps button to appear. (I'm talking about your average consumer who would typically have 0 knowledge in how to use a computer)

Explorer also looks like it was stripped down a bit as well. Even the UI for that is ugly enough since you no longer have Aero, and you will no longer be able to see that classic boxy Windows look from the 95 era. Nope, all gone now. Just an ugly blue window screen similar to Aero basic.

Microsoft really has went out of their way to try and ruin the desktop market. Who knows, they just might so they can move everyone onto tablets and strictly console gaming. Wouldn't be surprised really if they did happen.. I haven't tried to play any games or anything since 1. I can't activate it right now, 2. Trying to get anything done is cumbersome to begin with, 3. I'm not sure how well it'll handle your traditional game anyway.

All-in-all, Windows 8 is repulsive, it is designed for Tablets, not the desktop market. Sure there are computers that have touch screen on them, but don't forget that custom computer builders don't typically use touch-screen monitors, and those all-in-ones are just ugly to deal with. On top of not being able to replace parts easily in them either compared to a normal tower. I'm willing to bet that Windows 9 probably won't be much for the better since Microsoft drones are going to buy tons and tons of W8 copies anyway. Just like Apple drones buy iProducts regardless of whether or not they're ****.

Think I'll stick to W7 (much as I hate to say it) for now and my Android phone/tablet and maybe touches in Linux here and there... Least Android doesn't fail me, and just works the way I want it to.

Looks like Windows 8 reports to Microsoft every app you install.

Windows 7 is the last I'll stick with. XP is dead, Linux is too incompatible, Mac OS is authoritarian, and Windows 8 is a mutated piece of jank.

Linux is now being taken seriously in light of Windows 8 'suckitude'. Also, DirectX is now open, and can be safely and easily ported to Linux.

But wait, if Linux does overtake Windows and Mac OS as the world's most popular operating system, wouldn't that make Linux usage, COMMUNISM?????
