The Dark Knight Rises - 10/10
Nolan's my favorite director. Batman's my favorite hero. This was as good as I had hoped.

Tell me more about that. We watched it recently and didn't quite feel the same. I'm reading the book that inspired the movie and enjoying that more.

Our latest movie was The Last Action Hero. Wish they had done more with the spoofery.

Going off the theme and direction of most of your posts, and the confusion and resulting chastisement of Josiah, I would recommend the Stanley Kubrick 1962 film "Lolita". The novel is often quoted as one of the best ever written.

IMHO, the film was misplaced and didn't capture the 'alien' feel of the adventure, even with the awesome CGI. Maybe it's because I'm older. If you are enjoying the Sword and Planet type of genre, I would highly recommend John Norman's GOR series. It's easily as fleshed out as the Burrough's books, and has a bit more sexual spiciness (for young teenage boy satisfaction) without being too graphic in the descriptions. Personally, I enjoyed the books more than the Baroom series.

cgi removed a lot of the grittiness that was in the western scenes. inconsistencies in strength put me off a bit, too.

I felt about John Carter what I felt about The Fifth Element--super interesting world and neato CG, but I wanted the story to stand up better. That said, I do like rewatching The Fifth Element every 3-5 years.

remove the fairy queen with the mic from that movie and it'd be better.

Why are they remaking that movie?

Probably cause its an awesome story that leaves enough room to toy around with, not to mention that the previous one is already 22years old.

Not going to disagree with you there!

The original John Carter is in public domain now. I picked up the series to read on my Nook. Starts here: http://gutenberg.org/ebooks/62.

But without a thick Austrian "Get your ass to Mars!" will it be any good?

Ah, I'm planning on seeing that sometime in the future. I gotta swim through the ocean of exploitation films first though. It's my life goal to see every bad movie from 1999 on down.

Sadly, it was Ice Age 4 (the joys of children).
Previous to that it was probably Un Chien Andalou during one of the last concerts I'd attended.
