The end of the world is no more likely to occur in 2012 than it was in 2011, or 2010, or 2009.

Over here we have a 'famous' psychic lady, you could say a Dutch female Uri Geller. Knowing ½ our country lies belowe sealevel and every year we have a moment the water tries to break through, she predicted we would fail at it and have an other disaster on our hands like we did about 60 years ago.
She created a fund and tried to convince people to donate, she even got so far she was able to buy a helicopter.

Her motivation for this was cause she felt it was about to happen, she was wrong, but she had a motivation to state things like that.
What I am curious about is what the motivation of your researchers/friends is? What sort of indication do they have their statements are nothing more than ignorant fairytales to spook the general public?

My researchers and friends are ex-scientists who teach at my old school where I graduated from 5 years ago. I also am trying to reach retired military scientists to see if they would say anything but i doubt it since most of what im trying to dig into is classified afaik.

Their motivation is based on history and facts, Nothing of yet to spook the general public and from what i have already stated they are not ignorant to the best of my knowledge.

Everything to suggest there will be an apocalypse in 2012 is purely speculation.

Yes, an apocalypse.

Its just more escapism, like the religious extremists, Scientists warn us of the real global disaster approaching, half the world went mental, decided it was all lies, then went off and made up some lies of their own. It's like running around in the road shouting oh my god I'm going to get run over, rather than just getting out of the road. This is real life, no Hollywood hero's to save the world, just a bunch of idiots trying very hard to ignore what's really happening and make some cash that will be of no use whatsoever once the $#££t hits the fan.

Than they shouldnt have a problem providing more detail about their finds, seeing as they apparently also do this in respect to the well-being of us all.
Specially when your OP does make a claim it 'might' be a possible event in a few months from now.
With the upcoming month of December, I thought that I would take some time and put it on here just incase that this information might give some people information about the super-volcano in Yellowstone if it erupted in December per theory about one of the doomsday possibilities for the end of 2012.

Better say "merry xmas" now then.

So... world's gonna end, eh? This pleases me for some reason.

Although, the only way i'll ever beleive it is if it happens. There's been to many predictions an prophecies and none of them have come true.

I am more than willing to believe such event could happen, but there should be some (fairly) solid indication for it. So far, all these predictions have come without such indication.
At least I dont think that a Maya calender coming to an end says anything. We dont even make calenders beyond those for next year, at the end of the year, but the Maya's not continueing 'one' of their calendars beyond 500+ years in advance, possibly cause they got whiped out, doesnt say a single thing to me beyond that those people must have had big arms .. carrying such a big agenda ..

Isnt it nice how 'scientist predict something could happen'..

I predict the oceans could turn purple and all the fish go gold and we all have a perfect sunset ... it could happen .... 8-)

lol yes.
Because scientists predict an ancient and partially active super volcano can become active again doesn't mean it's going to happen - at least anytime soon (if at all) - and certainly not a set date of December 21st.
The Maya were incapable of predicting their own downfall or the invasion of the Spanish. Why would anyone think they've somehow predicted the end of the world? They haven't. They never did. Their calendar just ended because really, how big of a chunk of rock do you want to carve up for millennia beyond your life anyway?

I believe the calendar actually continued on another section of wall, but said wall had collapsed and only fragments were found.

Could be, or not. Either way, it's entirely irrelevant. When it was created there wasn't some great disaster linked to it's end. That's just something white people did later. :D

You know what came at the end of the Mayan calendar?

Wait for it...

ANOTHER CALENDAR.
