If you are having trouble with the interpolation in max be sure to smooth the curve to a flat line to be like BZ2's linear interpolation.

The C64 Demo Scene is a good example of people finding creative ways to work around 'hard' limitations that they have.

Indeed, demos are a wonderful example of people working with their nonfunctional requirements rather than complaining about them.
