I have to agree with ZA on this one. The few 10 player strats we had seemed less forgiving to higher ping connections, which resulted in more overall lag in gameplay (more resynchs, longer to recover from resynchs etc). This is comparing z13 to z6. We also played a few z6 strats the same day with the same players and connectivity/lag issue were almost non existent.
I'll test more and report back. Others in game were also complaining of lag and the pings were under 150 (most under 100). We usually have Aussie players join in but not this night, hoping to test z13 with pings 300+ (300+ pings in z6 were handled quite nicely).
@ZA, I did notice your ping was spiking in the games you tried joining -- 400 to 1000+ .. this is new as your ping to Maine US from Saskatoon Canada is usually much lower. Not sure if you are using a rental modem. I had problems with my junk Ubee Timewarner rental and recently switched to one that I bought (Motorola SB6141) and both my stability and speed increased (not to mention a reduction of $8 a month in fees).

This change was implemented privately over a week ago. We've had a week to test this out, prior to release. Testers decided playing z6 or not testing at all was more important.

making the brilliant leap in logic that people are being punished because of their location is pure horse hockey.
before i had dsl, i had microwave wireless to an antenna on a nearby peak which then went to other antennas before it got to town and it was lossy as heck. after i got dsl, the packet loss disappeared - yet, somehow, my location did not change... amazing!

Thanks for the tip juggz. My connection tends to be better at certain times in the day. Still waiting on land-line broadband to come to my area (which its supposed to). I'll look into third-party wimax modems and see if my ISP will support them.

Hah. You still think this is about your 3 player MPI games where you are the host and dont need to play with aussies or euro players, nor are inclined to care (because said players can just host their own 1-4 player games). That's fine. The fact that you think that intercontinental games dont have higher latency is silly. Keep living in your little bubble.

...and you still think i am talking about location.
to be clear, i am talking about their quality of connection, be they in australia or in europe or in asia or even 5 miles away.
i play with people from all over the globe - and not just bz2 - but not with the ones whose connections are lossy. they may be excellent players, but if their connection is dragging down the game for everyone, then it's boot time.

Other games have enough players to afford you that luxury. BZ2 does not.

it's not a luxury - they drag down your game or not.

If it wasn't deleted, I suspect that's what happens. I hate that preview button.
What I posted wouldn't have contributed anything so it's for the best.

clicking on factory , etc while on satelite-view is buggy!
I tested this in a quick game on my LAN. Worked fine as far as I could tell. Once again, please learn to adequately explain yourself if you want people to pay attention.

We're not trying to tell you that location is the cause of the issue, but that implementing a packet loss kick would cause trouble for players who are further away. The difference is slight, but to suggest we are is a straw man.

Not saying whatever needs to be, however since you're saying it isnt fair cause of people in remote locations being excluded from games, which is basicly what you're saying. It also is not fair that people who have the luxury of better internet, and pay for such internet, not be able to use it as a sort of standard in their own game cause everything is based on the 'weakest'.
For that reason I always had a low max ping set in 1.2 which kept my games smooth and relativly warp-free. Perhaps not very fair, but than again I dont buy games or pay for an internet connection out of fairness.

That's fine. If your a host then you have a right to exclude whoever you want. This is entirely different than a single untoggleable change that applies to everyone whether they want it or not.
Anyways, still wanting to wait and see how it affects international games.

BZ2 has been more forgiving of somewhat late packets. However, a bunch of players have taken it upon themselves to turn that into a tactical advantage, where it is highly probable that they induce some lag to gain a dogfight advantage. Down this path will reduce such exploits within games, something that I'd have thought that would be a feature to its players -- at least the ones with clean hands.
Once again, if the competitive community would actually take action against their toxic and/or griefing players, rather than blindly whitewashing such behavior, they might have more players remaining. It would be short term pain to kick out the jerks, but that would encourage long-term retention of younger/newer players.
