I am pretty sure I wont be getting W8 ..
That being said, I think it will take a long time before the average company switches over to something other than Windows. Plenty of company's still use XP/'NT', so those can always upgrade to W7 to get the feeling they're moving along with time.

Still very content with XP. Pretty much stripped it from unneeded BS which means I dont pay for extra memory so stuff can run in the background while I never use it, I prefer it that way.

Tasks, services, etc ...

compmgmt.msc
drwtsn32
gpedit.msc

Edit: If you really want to strip XP to the max and you dont like googling every task, I can send you some data that you can use as a 'guideline' (« note the last word here!). Just let me know.

AMD's not been a strong competitor to Intel for a few years. Intel doesn't have any real pressure to drop prices. See here, where they note that the Core i3-21xx dominates much more expensive AMD chips in games. And, AMD chips use a lot more power, which turns into higher power bills -- once for the system, and paying for AC/cooling. Not really worth it to me.

Still I bought an AMD last time I bought a CPU. If you let AMD die now you pay the price tomorrow, and you'll be paying it to Intel ...
