I'm getting a cruel enjoyment out of it, like pulling the legs off an insect (not that I ever did that).

Than how are you able to compare the 2?
Red Devil wrote:the point is that you cannot conclusively prove it - you can only point to old rocks and say that that is what it is. the theory of evolution is just guessing and believing what you want to believe. prove it as a law and i'll agree with you. until then, it's merely wishful thinking.
Doesnt that go both ways? If you see it as such:
One is believing what men wrote a very long time ago.
The other is believing what men wrote some time ago.
So the argument of proof can pretty much be trown of the table, when you cant provide proof for what was written some time ago, how will you ever provide proof for what was written a long time ago ..
And there you've provided yourself with a solution to the problem ...

The problem is that they are not talking about the same thing. Evolution is the process by which life alters its form, Creation is how it came to exist in the first place. For science the path back to the beginning is obliterated by the passage of time. But for Religion the process of form alteration is just not addressed. The argument is actually about whether Religion is prepared to embrace new knowledge. Some clearly are not. Fine. Just be aware that the rest of us will use it against you. You will be sidelined and discriminated against in life. It is not a route to success but a path to ignorance you choose to walk down.

thanks, RS, et al., for proving my point that the theory of evolution
is a belief system.
the people that deny God, they cannot humble themselves to admit that there is a higher power than themselves because they see themselves as gods. boy, will they be ashamed when the time comes... (see pascal's wager) boy, talk about being discriminated against...
i'm supposed to be moderate, but i just couldn't resist exposing it for what it is again, but i'll bow out now and leave you to your beliefs.

Red Devil wrote:boy, i was right - the theory of evolution *is* a religion; just look at all the believers trying to convert me.
if the theory of evolution is ever conclusively *proven* and becomes law, then i'll accept it. until then, believe what you want to believe.
splitting this subject off...again.
You've still got your definitions a little off.
Laws are rules within theory. Theory is not, as I stated before, meant as in used in common speak, it actually has a completely different definition (as I also stated before).
But as above and below (hehe) you've made the point you have no intention of debating anything and fling logical fallacy around then duck out.
Begone!

Thank you. People utterly failed to convince me of this stuff when I was only 4. The chances of anyone succeeding now are less than those of them actually being right.

Perhaps you missed the part where I said it is how 'you' see it as such?

It is, but it was all said with a wink (afaik) and didnt spiral out of control like most of these conversations do.

It should be pointed out that evolutionary science does not discredit religious belief at all. Evolution only describes the changes and adaptation of a species after it has already come to be.
It does not cover abiogenesis (creation) of a species.
Generally, arguments against in threads like these are done by people who don't actually understand the theory at all.
