From what I can tell, Maya is for film and Max is for games.

Having used both I'd agree, but a lot of places nowadays are using maya for video games as well. Which is a shame, since I prefer 3ds max.

I think the low poly control of 3dsMAX is second to none. I don't mean flat no poly either, I mean the ability to work on a low poly model and make it look like a high poly model. I wish I could figure out normal maps for some of the non BZ2 modding but I don't need that here.

Just do what i do for normal maps, make a heightmap and render it to a normal map using texture maker, btw, if you have another instant messenger program, we need to talk again, it's been a while, my messenger is still fried.

(Personally I suggest Trillian as a client.) Later this week I will expand my profile a bit with my IM accounts. I prefer Google Talk as of late though because I confer with classmates on it. It is compatible with any Jabber server really.
