The Miles sound system would be entirely irrelevant to who owns the IP, which realistically is the only important part as far as this discussion is concerned.

The use of licensed software like that effects the distribution of source code and POSSIBLY the distribution of the compiled product. It does not effect the IP, that being the story, characters, units, and so on. What we are interested in mainly is the IP, nothing more, nothing less. Getting distribution rights for the existing software would be just about as nice as getting it on GoG, not really much more, but it still doesn't give you source access which frankly you don't really want for a game this old unless you plan to patch it.

Activision's marketing department might be willing to listen for a change. Who knows? As my father always told me, "there's no shame in trying."

The best thing to do if you want to see BZ2 out there to more players is to get it upvoted on GoG.

If Nathan applied for the Bz2 license, he could probably get it but the cost would probably be ownership of his code.

No it would most likely just cost him a lot of money

Or both. I doubt Nathan would want to sacrifice the code for something so much less useful, though.

GSH is the last owner of the code. After he quits, it's over for BZ2. Of course, there always is the option of illegal decompilation...

Reverse engineering the engine from scratch. Sounds like a good summer project.

Sounds like 10 times harder than just making a new game.

If it wasnt for its flaws you could easilly still play 1.2.
That goes the same for 1.3, when DX28 gets released you can always keep an old system running just for older, unsupported games, if all else fails.

Just having dx9 support goes a long way.
Good enough for an older pc that is still very useful for many things.

One way we could get BZ2 nationally recognized would be to buy out Activision and remarket the game. Or... we could put on ski masks and Kevlar vests, rob liquor stores, and shout "BATTLEZONE LIVES!" before leaving.
