Action Movie Fakeness

I just watched the 1970's film Duel, and one thing I like about it is the truck crash.
Why?
Because they actually filmed driving a truck off the edge of a cliff. (If you watch it, you notice the truck cab door is suddenly "open" right as it shows it driving off, likely because the stunt driver bailed out of the moving truck before it went over)
Now days, current action movies, any vehicle that drives off a cliff seems to inevitably explode. This is not realistic. The truck here didn't explode, and it was (supposedly) full of flammable liquid. (Though it probably was empty in reality)
But in a current movie, Or if they were to remake it, the truck would explode.
Hell, I'm surprised they don't make Bicycles that drive off cliffs explode when they hit the ground...
