With the upcoming month of December, I thought that I would take some time and put it on here just incase that this information might give some people information about the super-volcano in Yellowstone if it erupted in December per theory about one of the doomsday possibilities for the end of 2012.

What do you guys think?

That volcanoes are not known for their punctuality.
And that hopefully on January the 1st, a lot more people will realise that there are Lots of other people out there who will just make up any old rubbish, if they think they can earn a living from it.

The super volcano's expected large eruption would be fairly devastating. It is estimated that it would immediately kill much of the north American population in the first blast, the ensuing firestorm would probably incinerate most surface life on the American continent and the resulting catastrophic "nuclear winter" would probably cause mass extinctions on a global basis.
Its number one on my list of "Act of God" events for saving humanity from itself. :)

Unless of course Mitt Romney Isn't just a devious liar and the "clean coal" technology he said he was going to use (in yesterdays debate) does actually exist. (which it doesn't) Because if it does exist we can use it to extract CO2 straight from the atmosphere/ocean and convert it into stable forms of carbon and the whole global warming issue is fixed and humanity is saved! Hurrah!
Unfortunately Mitt is a Liar.

if i'm not mistaken, CO2 is used by plants during photosynthesis, where they strip the carbon from it and release O2 into the atmosphere...

if anything, the thing you should be worried about is water vapor, smoke/particulates, and methane, all of which *can, have and do* cause climate change when ejected by volcanoes.

don't get suckered by manipulative politicians.

You are the one being suckered. Your whole nation is being suckered by a bunch of greedy self interested industrialists, politicians and their chums in their golden robes.

This has been happening since before the evolution of life on this planet, it is not a threat. Please stop quoting this bull**** at me, you know as well as I do it is created by people with fiscal interests in the continuation of business as usual at the cost of future generations.
Nobody who has paid any attention to the actual climate research and to the political response can claim to be ignorant of what is really happening, politicians running scared of a future they don't have the imagination to shape and economic forces they don't have the balls to control.

okay, yes, yes, money/businessmen/capitalism bad, poor/workers/socialism good...

btw, trees are a renewable resource. oil, not so much.

there won't be wars and rioting and famine due to (renewable) trees, but try turning off the gas pumps for a few days...then the socialists will be blaming the capitalist pigs for not drilling enough or refining enough and not growing/processing/shipping enough food.

me, i'm just waiting for 24/25 people to go away (attrition, pandemic, daleks, etc.)

No Red, you are putting the words you want to hear into my mouth. There is nothing wrong with money or business, unless they are used against the interests of the people/nation and this (climate change) issue is the big one, it is the ultimate sell out.
I have found it quite shocking how quickly they were able to turn us from nations embracing science and technology to improve the lot of humanity, back into paranoid and superstitious fools denying the clear evidence before our eye's.

This is the really ironic thing. It is the current approach that will lead to the gas pumps going off! Prices continue to rise as use increases and availability declines.
We have the alternate technologies required, but we don't have the infrastructure to support them. A different approach to power generation is required for electric powered vehicles, the national grid/big power stations model simply would not cope with the demand. Many more smaller, sustainable generating systems would be needed to power a civilisation like the US and it just so happens that you are extremely well endowed with sustainable energy sources (lots of sunshine, lots of coast, lots of wind) You are in an excellent position to make a killing providing energy to the rest of the America's.
Bringing that infrastructure online was the problem. Big energy business wants control, but it can't keep control with the sustainable model, so they are not interested in developing it and have actively fought against it.
Had you started 20 years ago, you would now have a booming industry, supplying equipment for hundreds of thousands of private energy generators and millions of homes. America would be energy independent, creating wealth and employment for far more people than the current system does, you would have a booming vehicle and technology export market instead of having to print money just to keep your economy running. All that was needed was leaders with the balls to face down the existing energy business structure and force them to go along with it. Didn't happen, still won't happen, instead their reading fiction to you as your nation declines in order to protect an environmentally damaging system and its controllable profits.

I live in southern California. Earthquakes happen here all the time.

And re:Yellowstone, I'd bet that the San Andreas Fault will explode before Yellowstone does. It's been awfully quiet...

And thus southern California floats off into the middle of the Pacific, very, very slowly...

It was okay.

Well from what I just got from new researches (friends of mine) this event might be delayed per to a 2012 disaster. We at the latest might have an extra of 1 to 2 years is what I just found out. Also can we at least please stick to the original topic?

Last I heard was an eruption was expected to occur sometime in the next 50,000 years or so. Unless some new research has figured out how to accurately predict earthquakes and the energy they will release, I think were still at the point of only having a few hours or days warning at most.
