small IA map change, need help....

Ok, I am running patch 1.3.6.3beta and I am trying to add some extra loose scrap to the "Dunes" instant action map. I launch using the editor .exe, go into instant action and choose the Dunes map, then do a ctrl+ e and agree to the terms. I click on objects, then eyedropper and select a pc. of scrap on the ground. I set the height to 0 so it won't be floating, the use the "place" feature and add some more scrap around my starting base. I then click on save, and choose ascii, name it Dunes2 and just save the files to my desktop, as it won't let me save in the default directory that comes up. Here is where I need help!!

Please do not just link another thread unless it covers my problems. I need to know specifically what to do with those files. I have been putting them into a folder I named Dunes2 and placing that into data>missions>instant directory. I am sure that is wrong, but I can see my redone map in the instant action section and go into it. My problems are, there are two recyclers in each base, and playing it makes my game hang on certain sounds, then crashes to desktop.

If someone could plz take the time to walk me through this I would be ever so grateful.

Thx in advance!

You need to put them in addon>missions>instant.

The data folder is very very very old, and literally EVERYTHING else loads before it. Basically, Don't use data folder, ever.

Also, before saving the map, since the DLL spawns the recycler on start, DELETE the old recyclers. Then save the map.

TY for the quick reply, but there is no "missions" folder in the "addon" folder, and so no "instant" subfolder. Do I create them manually within "addon?"

That's right. Maps13/missions/instant is also a valid place to put it. Create those folders if they dont exist.

Thx guys, works great now! Still getting some "hanging" but I can try lowering my video settings.

Hmmm..... set all the graphics to low, still hanging, didn't do that on Patch 1.3.6.2. Maybe it is not my map, maybe something in the new patch? Any suggestions of maybe something to turn off?

Win 7 64bit
Triple Core AMD (2.1 GHz)
4 Meg dual channel RAM
512MB GeForce 9800 GTX+ (750MHz GPU)
Plenty of room on the HDD

These specs should run this fine, all the graphics are set to low no matter if they defaulted to high or not. Left my res at 1680x1050 though. It seems to be smooth, but then it will hang for like 3-5 seconds and then let go. Mostly does it when I am commanding from a bunker and viewing my tanks in the enemies base, but it does it in my own base too. Not frequent enough to not be playable, but very annoying.

Only this map change has this issue or all games? A bit odd for just the map but it doesn't sound like a map based issue.

Haven't tried a lot of maps, but the stock Dunes map does it too on IA. I only play against the AI, so haven't tried multiplayer. Just tried Chill and Bridges on IA and seemed to run smooth. I will try and alter one of those maps and see if it makes a difference, it might only be the Dunes map.

Ah Dunes, one of the few maps that even lags my system. Its cause of the fog on the west side of the map. That and large* concentrations of loose pull my FPS down, which in turn gives a stuttery vibe.

*large = overly large
Did you deploy a few pieces of scrap on the map, or did you litter the map with hundreds of pieces mostly confined in clusters?
Pulling up the sat-view, in fog and with a large concentration of scrap in visible range can drop performance quite a bit.

I'd advice to set everything on the first graphics-option screen to a low/medium level and see if it changes anything for you.
Secondly, and this bit of advice may not be very welcomed, but I'd stick to PB1.3.6.2 when playing IA. AFAIK, 6.3 isnt really the next step up, but more like an alternate version to solve matchmaking issues in MP.

edit: east = west

Yes, tyvm for that info, that does seem to be what is happening. I recently re-installed Win 7, and I do not have 1.3.6.2 any longer and the matesfamily page only has the latest patch. Anyone able to link where to get 1.3.6.2? I sure would appreciate it. = )

bzscrap.org has most of the previous versions IIRC.

High resolutions (like running in 1080p) tend to take the most serious toll on framerate out of all the graphics settings, but that's typically no problem at all for fast computers like yours; also if it's getting jumpy like that, if it had to do with the graphics settings then the jumpiness would only appear during certain situations (e.g. a ton of particle effects on the screen simultaneously, or viewing particles at super close range -- the 1.3 patch uses particle culling to ensure that this doesnt happen). The stuttering is probably due to some other factor like the AIP going berserk, the AIP creating an 'overbuild' (e.g. 60 scavengers) or a massive amount of collisions happening at once (like trying to fit 2 groups of tanks through a chokepoint). The stuttering problem would need further study in order to find out what is causing it.

Something off going on with local fog? Just a random guess, that stuff nukes ppl sometimes.

Well, back to patch 1.3.6.2, and everything looks better as far as the hanging issue. But the two recyclers problem I originally had in 1.3.6.3 is now back, and I am saving it to the addon folder, and deleting the recycler in both bases b4 I save it. It worked in 1.3.6.3, but I end up with two recyclers in 1.3.6.2. Anyone have any idea why? All I am doing is adding a couple of biometal pools and a few more pieces of scrap.
