Ubuntu 10.04. Only because it used 'Gnome' as default.

Too early to say, I would say. 11.04 has just reached 'beta' status. And I would say that most likely since it's the first release to use the Unity desktop as default its probably not going to be as solid as the GNOME desktop so 10.04 might be better. But it really is too soon to tell. This is the kind of question you would ask a month *after* the final release of 11.04 has been out, and after enough people have had a chance to get used to Unity (if they did not just go back to GNOME)
