Don't respond to spammers trying to promote products/websites. Just ping an admin, preferably me about banning spammers. I've banned two such spammers in the last 24 hours. I have zero tolerance for such types, and will hand out bans for such things.

The spammers seem to recognize that 'off topic' is the best place for their junk. But, an even better place is back in their lower intestine.

Any mods that can be installed to check for spambots upon registration? Not sure what kind of mods there are for phpbb related to this...

I had a similar issue on my modeling forum with a couple of spammers. As admin I just banned them and deleted their accounts; it's really the only option. Spammers suck.

BZ2MD has been flooded with them recently. It's crazy.

I still assert that the best 'captcha' is not something that can be OCR'd, but rather something community specific, like when signing up have it pick one random question from a list of questions with a text box for an answer, something like:
What is the primary ISDF Tank's name?

I read recently that Facebook has started a 'captcha' service that lets people embed a captcha in their sites that pulls from a prospective users friends and asks them to identify them. Only useful if the prospective user has a Facebook account though. ;-)

I prefer site/community-specific questions personally.
