RIP Dennis Ritchie

Author of the C programming language, co-founder of Unix. Basically, most software and OS design of the last three decades has been highly influenced by him and the groups of engineers that built C and Unix. Articles here, here, and here.

Steve Jobs sold shiny stuff. Thompson, Ritchie, Wozniak, and others made things work, and gave away tools to let others work. I prefer the latter camp, even if it didn't make for neat presentations and billboards.

Never heard of this guy, but I wish his family the best and I am thankful for his contributions.

some budding programmers could (and should) learn from his example of humility and imagination.

I don't know about the humility part. You show humility, and the suits take advantage.

Sad news to hear Ritchie is gone. One of my favorite things about being into computer science is that most of the giants in the field are still alive.
