I went on ZEMod.net and my virus protection said there was a trojan horse that was blocked. It was from that website and I left immediately.

Who put viruses on it? Was there really a trojan? I'm confused.

What antivirus are you using? You should consider finding something else.

I'm using Avast, and I've heard good things about it. Why would it be that weird?

Personally I am now finding that an anti vir solution that finds things is preferable to one that does not...
I got a new phone for xmas, of course to connect it to your pc you need a 200 mb application...to do exactly what windows explorer should be able to do anyway, during its install stopzilla detected and deleted vundoa12...a further full scan has found antivirsolutionpro... Nice name eh? So why are large well known corporation installing viruses on my computer? You would think that they could be trusted right? Really. The 200mb application that enables me to interact with my new phone, unfortunately, is unable to do so without at some point, crashing my pc...So obviously they tested that 200mb of unnecessary software really well. Antivirsolutionpro Looks like an antivirus program that was installed on my pc without my knowledge or consent, by Samsung kies, which is itself only just a few seconds away from being Exterminated. I shall find my own solutions, as clearly the manufacturers cannot be trusted to do even a half decent job.
Further Investigation reveal Antivirsolution pro to be what I suspected it was, A professional solution against effective antivirus protection! Samsung Kies is no more, and I am contemplating taking the phone back for a refund!

Ok, but how does avast fit into this? And why would avast say there was a trojan?

Web sites can be infected.
Some antivirus sw produces false positives when they find something unknown, Anti virus software is only as good as the work that goes on to keep it effective, don't know much about avast, do they have an extensive website packed full of viri info.
If not they might just be a bunch of till operators cashing in on someone else's work...

Until virus scanners operate off of a white list principle, which is the opposite of what they do now, no anti virus is going to be 100% effective. Especially when factoring that new viruses are released daily, if not hourly.

Current virus scanners operate off of a black list. If a file is recognized as a virus in the virus scanner's database, block it. If the signature is not recognized, leave it be. With a white list, everything is assumed to be a virus unless the software recognizes it as not being a virus. Setting up your anti virus would then become a huge PITA due to having to tell it which process and program is safe.

Frankly most of the viri I come into contact with these days, could really only be the product of those you would expect to find on a white list...

There is a type of malware that performs two evil deeds at the same time and Antivir Solution Pro is one of them. It is a rogue antispyware application that is a direct clone of such malicious threats as AV Security Suite and Antivirus Soft. Usually Antivir Solution Pro gets into your computer when you are already infected with some kind of Trojan, and it clearly does not need your permission to install itself in your system. It shows that you need to have a computer safeguard program installed and perform regular scans of your system; otherwise your files and even your money can be in great danger.

The trojan in this case is Samsung Kies 2.
WTF are you supposed to do when organisations like samsung can't (or won't) keep malware out of their programs.
