Re: 3-way battles
When we say "1.2", we mean version 1.2 of Battlezone II. That means BZ2 with the 1.2 patch installed.
1.3 Public Beta 6 is the 1.3.6 patch - it breaks compatibility with the version of Forgotten Enemies General BlackDragon linked you do.
To fix, you'll need to re-install BZ2. Ideally, you should do it to another location so as not to overwrite the one you already have; this would allow you to use both. 1.2 can be found here.

Re: 3-way battles
Nope. The original FE install is for 1.2 only. You have a 1.3 install of BZ2.
http://www.bzscrap.org/downloads/Patches/BZ2v1.2b/
There's the 1.2 patch. You'll need to either reinstall BZ2, or you can install a new directory (do not copy over, just make a new install of BZ2) and you can use the latest 1.3 install to play other mods if you wish.
[edit] Well derp. You can disregard my post entirely. I didn't think to hit the "Next Page" button to see AH's post.

If you happen to be looking through my posts, I have completely dumped all things related to Battlezone. Do not contact me, do not bother me. Been harassed enough as it is and am done entirely.
Re: 3-way battles
Ok - eventually I got someone who was computer literate on this. He has loaded the 1.2 patch and reloaded BZII in to a separate folder and then downloaded FE. I now can now click on 'Forgotten Enermies' and BZII launches - if I click on 'single player' the first level of BZII launches (base has been trashed) - is this right? I can't remember how FE starts but don't recall it starting the same as BZII but it was a really long time ago... can anyone advise if I have now been successful with this and just need to play this through?? Thanks for your patience. N

No, FE's Single player and UI are different from stock BZ2's.

Not sure what went wrong. To play 1.2 FE, this is what needs to be doneNod wrote:Ok - eventually I got someone who was computer literate on this. 1) Install a fresh copy of Battlezone 2 in a different folder than your 1.3 install is currently using
2) Install the 1.2 patch patch into that new BZ2 install you just made
3) Install FE into that folder
What should happen then is that a Forgotten Enemies shortcut is created on your desktop. When you click on that shortcut, you will launch into BZ2 and it will look differently than normal (due to the interface being modded) as well as have different background music. If you click on singleplayer the first mission will take place on the planet Mercury (which looks like the moon) and not Pluto (with shabayev).

Re: 3-way battles
OH I know why it didn't work.
You're on windows Vista / 7 / 8 right?
Both MM5 and the FE EXE Launcher use the old 1.2 method of swapping cfg file names in the battlezone 2 directory. You probably have BZ2 installed under Program Files folder.
Here is how to make it work: Right click on the icon for FE, go to properties. In compatability tab, check "Run as Administrator" and hit apply. Then it should launch properly.
Windows Vista, and other Windows operating systems developed afterwords, have a "safety" feature built into them. They won't let any program modify anything inside of Program Files or Windows folders without administrative privileges.

Re: 3-way battles
HI. I didn't get any shortcut set up on the desk top but took on board what Gen BlackDragon suggested - u r right. So instead went into where all the programs are listed and right hand clicked to run as administrator - and it launched FE. Haven't tried to play yet (so hopefully no problems) but looks like its going to R&R! Thanks v much for your help and keeping BZ alive. Nod.
Re: 3-way battles
BTW - what is 'Rev B' and 'Rev C' and what's the difference?

Re: 3-way battles
Short Story. Rev.C is a patch that goes on top of Rev.B and Rev.D is a patch for Rev.C. One of them improves MPI game modes, and the other is a balance patch, I think.

Re: 3-way battles
No. The 1.2 patch is entirely different than 1.3 public beta 6, they cannot co-exist together in the same battlezone 2 folder. Typically you make 2 different installs of bz2, for example
C:\Program Files\Battlezone II\
C:\Program Files\Battlezone II 1.3\
Then you install the 1.2 patch and FE into the Battlezone II folder, then after that you install 1.3 patch into the "Battlezone II v1.3" folder. They dont have to be named exactly as I named them in the example above, they just have to be different folders.
This will allow you to play 1.2 FE as well as 1.3 depending on what desktop shortcut you launch with after you are done installing.

Re: 3-way battles
What I recall of Rev. D is that it adds splash/area damage to a lot of weapons. Not saying this is bad, but it surelly is not in line with the original.Zero Angel wrote:Short Story. My advice: dont patch beyond Rev. C
Re: 3-way battles
Mmmm.... So I have at last got FE installed - in its own folder - and working (well sometimes - sometimes it launches and sometimes it doesn't - the computer doesn't seem to like 'old' file format even if I run as administrator. So I turn off the computer and turn on again and this SEEMS to fix it!!). Which is the best one to go with Rev B or C? Thanks Nod
