Unbalanced Instant Action

Post by Andykarta »

Instant Action mission. Just as I was building my first factory I got bombed. Did not waste time. Built stuff as fast as possible. I think I had one extractor upgraded. I then started a new mission and went straight to the enemy base. Omg. In the time it took me to cross the map he had gun towers and a factory and a service center and armory and was pumping out scavengers like I eat popcorn. So I started again with abacus in hand and after some brief calculations, I figured he had to be collecting scrap three times faster than me from the start of the game. And that's not including the guns and the walls and all the enemy turrets scattered about. WTH? Played with the force sizes and difficulty. This stuff makes most of the maps unplayable. Please help if this is a noob problem. I like multiplayer but I really like instant action when I'm not totally outgunned. There's that thing with the scouts and extra scrap. Is that what I should be doing. Seems odd and not fun. Why can't we both start as equals and just fight it out?

The better question would be 'which map are you playing'.
He has clearly picked a GH-map and those are not designed for the most casual of players. Specially since some of them have the AI start out with 4 or more pools in close proximity to the AI's base.

All of the GreenHeart maps are aimed at more advanced players who prefer a challenge. Some people like easier, some people like harder. Pick a different map rather than demand that everything cater to your preference. (Same goes for those who like harder, or PvP or PvE).

Yeah, the GH maps have pre-placed guntowers and stuff, to prevent rushing the AI's base.

It isnt the guntowers that make the maps more difficult, its the easy access to excessive scrap that does. Combined with a good scrapcheat and higher lvl AIP the AI cant even use all of it.

Gosh, I didn't think I was making demands. Sorry about that and thanks for the info. I've got nothing but props for the of the patch makers. You guys are why I'm playing it at 1920 by 1080 on a big ole plasma screen. Weirdly, maps like Oasis and high and low don't have that overwhelming feel of seeing bombers before I could get my factory and assault tanks while I'm still in a scout even with Greenheart. But I'll probably have a different opinion once I've put more than a month into playing the game. Either way thanks for the responses. BTW any way of modifying instant missions with an ini file or something.

There's some options:
1) Click on the 'extra options' button before you start an IA and/or MP game to see various tweaks you can do
2) Run bz2edit.exe (the editor build). When in a SP/IA mission, hit control-E to open the editor, and have fun.

I think I may do just that. Thanks for the response. It still blows my mind there is such an active community for bz2. You have no idea how happy this makes me. Now if only people still played 'Giants'

No one implied you were Mr Defensive.
GH maps range from normal MPIs to heavily reenforced. Generally you know by seeing if the map is asymmetric or not.

It is much easier to spot by the name of the map.
Regular MPI = MPI: [name of map]
GH MPI = MPI: GH [name of map]

I was saying that GH maps tend to be unbalanced in the favor of the AI when they are asymmetrical vs symmetrical. Not always though, for example MPI Surprise is symmetrical but has a reinforced AI base.

Your last sentence made me believe you where trying to explain how to spot a GH-map. I wasnt saying you're wrong, just that its easy to spot GH-maps by their name.
