Green Lantern

Post by Baconboy »

Anyone seen it? :?:
I've heard it was bad from critics, but a lot of normal people thought it was awesome.
Btw, my avatar is my custom Lantern.

Not interested....strictly from a long-time comic reader perspective. The character was always kind of hokey to me.
I'm guessing they didn't add the part where he has a lantern he has to hide away from everyone where he recharges his ring every night, right?

Never even heard of that...
I've been reading some newer comics and they never put that in...

The Trailer I saw does show him using a Lantern, don't know if he keeps it or what. I want to see it, my wife and I make our own decisions on movies and try to ignore the critics. There have been a few movies that we saw that sucked, but we made that decision. One for instance was Jim Carry's " I love you Phillip Morris", we got about 25 minutes into before we realized it was graphicly gay and we couldn't click the off button on the DVD player fast enough, and will never unsee what we saw. But we'll let you make your own decision, lol.

LOL
I don't rely on critics, but I want to see what they say.

Comic book adaptations are huge. It's been a long running trend now (aside from 80s movie remakes - Footloose? A sequel to Top Gun? WTF Hollywood).
And you can bet comic companies are going to milk it for all it's worth. On that note, yes, they are actually going to make an Aquaman movie.

Some better comic adaptations:
Scott Pilgrim vs The World
the Watchmen
Sin City

There are more, but those three stick out. They changed the ending of the Watchmen, which at first i really didn't like. But in retrospect it was the perfect thing to do. A giant alien destroying a city would have been too hokey and has been done into the ground.

They also compressed what? Six or seven volumes of Scott Pilgrim into one movie and all said and done, did it quite well.

Sin City was the most direct adaptation I have ever seen. Scene for scene straight from the books. Nothing cut out, nothing added (except bits of colour here and there, but Miller had his hand in the production and loved the effect). We'll be waiting forever for the sequels. :(

V for Vendetta was disappointing, as was From Hell...and oh god, the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. What a bomb. No wonder Alan Moore is so pissy when his books get made into movies.

RED was an entertaining adaptation, but not really true to the original. On that note, I would love to see a really well done adaptation of Planetary (probably one of my all time favourite series) but that will never happen, and if it did, I'd never be satisfied. Of course, they said Watchmen could never be made into a movie....

I'm seeing Super 8 before I see GL, simply becasue it looks better and got better reviews. I do take word from critic on what to see. Skyline is a good example, bad reviews by both critics and a lot of viewers, so I avoided it. Battle LA, good viewer reviews but mediocre critic reviews, still saw it.

Skyline is worth watching. . .for free on HBO or whatever, but absolutely not worth going to a theater to see.

Watchmen looked cool from the trailer, but I'm choosing not to see it any time soon. A superhero movie with that type of content is just not what I want to see.

What kind of content is that?

I'm trying to think of what it has over other super hero movies....
A good mystery, solid writing... yeah, stay clear of that.

I've never read Watchmen comic books, but thought the movie was a very good one. Another comic book adaptation I'm surprised you didn't mention was Spawn. I had never read any comic books on the super hero but loved the movie. My favorite super hero is the Incredible Hulk. I've watched both the new movies at least six times each and am just giddy about the Avengers coming with him in it. We too may see Super 8 over going to see Green Lantern just because the trailers don't do his character justice.

I saw Super 8 last night. Gotta say I was quite pleased. Ending needed some polishing but it went over well, indeed an example that good film-making can succeed in this world, which I did not see in Pirates 4.
